George Alvin Fehler

Funeral services for George Alvin Fehler, 86, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Pastor Warren Ruland officiating, with interment in Cullman City Cemetery. Mr. Fehler will lie in state at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Mr. Fehler died Saturday at his home. He was born in Cullman to John and Ella vonWerdt Fehler. After graduating from Tuscaloosa High School, he serving in the Air Transport Command during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, George worked as a pilot. His aviation contract company, MSI (Management Services Inc.), flew for NASA and he was privileged to have flown the German rocket scientists around the world. After retiring from active flight duty, George served as vice president of the company and was responsible for negotiations and contracts with government agencies. George was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Richard Herman Fehlher and Ernest George; and a sister, Ruth Clara Marie Fehler.Survivors include his wife, Julia Faye Jordan Ponder Fehler; a daughter, Theresa Leigh Fehler of Tuscaloosa; a stepson, George W. (Jean) Ponder III; two stepgrandchildren, George W. (Deborah Bidanset) Ponder IV and Michael (Zonya) Ponder; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Brittany, Tristan, George Edward and Jessie Ponder; a sister, Ann Fehler Arnold; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Charles Hopson, Matthew Hullett, Michael Hullett, W.W. Smith, James Dahlke and Darrel Bailey.Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral in the church parlor.
