GEORGE ANDREW III
Age 56, of Brookline, formerly of Carrick, died suddenly on Friday, January 12, 2018. Devoted husband of Alice M. Gross (Garfold); loving and dedicated father of Nicole and George Andrew Gross IV; cherished son of George, Jr. and Rose Gross; grandson of the late George A. and Alice Gross, the late Alfred and Catherine Kuntz, son-in-law of Dolores and the late Gilbert Garfold; brother of Deborah and (Scott) Englert; caring uncle to many nieces and nephews. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for six years and retired as Captain on the City of Pittsburgh Fire Department after 24 years of service. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and Local 1 Firefighters. Friends welcome Saturday and Sunday 2-8 p.m. WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE (412-563-2800), 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp. 15220. Funeral Service 8:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

To the family of George Gross you have lost a son,a husband and a father and the world has lost a good man. I had worked alongside george for a lot of years. I had a lot of respect for george and his loss will be felt for years to come. I had retired and my son took up the career of firefighter. I made him promise me one thing when he entered the field after the academy. That promise was for him to go work for a captain named George Gross. I trusted and respected George that much. Any time after our retirements when we met, it was with a hand shake and a smile.

I am very sad to hear of Georges passing. My thoughts and prays go out to his family and friends.
I grew up on Lindview Ave. with George as kids back in the 70's riding bikes, playing street hockey, and most of all building scale model cars. I was four years younger and always in the way, yet George and Frankie always seem to have time to let the "kid" hang out in the basement building model cars and tanks.
George has no idea what an influence he made on me as kids, and how that followed me through my adult years.. I went on to become a competitive scale model builder and enjoyed years of professional competition and mentoring of younger members of the hobby. Thank you George.
