George Alton "Buddy" Lovick

Buddy was born in 1932, in Fort Worth, to Helen and George Lovick, who preceded him in death. Buddy spent his childhood in Longview, graduating from Longview High School in 1950. He then entered Texas A&M College and graduated with a degree in architectural engineering in 1955. Buddy was employed with Texas Eastman Company for 39 years and retired from the position of senior engineer. During both his childhood and adult life, Buddy enjoyed and was active in many roles with the boy scouts. He gave selflessly and generously his time and energy to the scouts. As a young scout, he received his eagle. During his more than 40-year association, he received the honors of the silver beaver and silver antelope. He was inducted into the East Texas Scouting Hall of Fame in 1982. Buddy was a member of Winterfield Methodist Chruch. Buddy was a devoted Christian, husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, JoAnn Killingsworth Lovick; three children, Margaret Ann Lovick Johnson and husband, Dennis, of Alvin, Judy Lovick Buckstaff and husband, Russell, of Longview, and William Joseph Lovick and wife, Krista, of Nacogdoches; and two grandchildren, Lindsay Lovick Buckstaff and Christopher Ryan Buckstaff. Buddy is also survived by his sister, Mary Lynn Lovick Welch and husband, R.C., of Longview; brother, Dr. James Shepherd Lovick and wife, Charlene, of Valparaiso, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Bernice Kranz of Longview, and Dilcie Fleming of Dallas; and numerous nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2006, at Rader Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel, with Jerry Mccaghren and Bobby Kranz officiating. Interment will follow chapel services in at Rosewood Mausoleum. Honorary pallbearers will be V.G. Rollins, Wayne Dolive, Paul Yater, Gerry Ishee, Jim Velvin, and Tom Mittler.
