George Marnell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2024.
George Michael Marnell, born on September 3, 1950, in California, passed away on July 7, 2024, at the age of 73 in Las Vegas, Nevada. A lifelong resident of Las Vegas since the age of three, George left a significant mark on the city through his contributions to its architecture and community.

George took over his father's business in the early 1980s, renaming it Marnell Masonry. Under his leadership, the company flourished, contributing to the construction of numerous hotels, schools, and commercial projects that shaped the skyline of Las Vegas. His vision and dedication not only advanced his career but also provided a lasting legacy in the city's development.

Beyond his professional achievements, George was passionate about his hobbies. He was an avid boater and motorcycle enthusiast, enjoying rides on his Harley. His competitive spirit was showcased in his participation in the NHRA Pro-stock racing for about 10 years, during which he won two national events. These activities brought him immense joy and fulfillment throughout his life.

George's life was celebrated at a beautiful memorial service held at Panavino on July 18, with the help of his brother, Anthony Marnell II. The event was attended by numerous family members, friends, and colleagues who came together to honor his memory and support one another.

He is survived by his wife, Heidi Marnell; daughters, Desiree Jorgensen and Heather Wallace; grandchildren, Ashley and Zachary Jorgensen, Kaitlyn, Garrett , and Jackson Wallace; and great-grandson, Niko Jorgensen. He also leaves behind his brother, Tony Marnell II, a niece and nephew. George was preceded in death by his father, Tony Marnell Sr.; mother, Marie Marnell; and brother, Michael Marnell.

George's life story is a testament to his dedication to both his family and his community, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

I knew of George through his NHRA participation. What always impressed me was how he took the time in the pits to explain the sport, and give autographs
to, admiring youngsters. Too many drivers with high self esteem couldn't be
bothered. George was a regular guy. No, make that "superior."

I will never forget a storm on Lake Mead. George came to all our rescue.
What a boater he was.
