George McCaffery Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 15, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George "Georgie" McCaffery, Jr.

George was born April 3, 1969, in Poughkeepsie, NY, and raised in Westtown and Unionville, NY, where he "attended" Minisink Valley High School. However, he spent more time in the woods than in the actual classroom. George later moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and ultimately Panama City, Florida, where he started his wood flooring business.

George was known for his big brown eyes, boisterous laugh, and meticulous attention to detail. He was an amazing chef and enjoyed fishing, going to TOOL concerts with his sister, and spending many years attending the Nascar race in Daytona with his best friends, Duke, Russ, and Mike.

George is survived by his two amazing sons, Darren and Daniel McCaffery, his daughter, Aidan, his mother, Rosemarie "Chickie" McCaffery, his sister, Dawnmarie "Dawnie" Taylor and her husband, Zach, and his favorite Aunt, Barbara Kerpen-Faticone and his favorite Uncle, Dennis Robinson.

George didn't always make the best choices in life, but he loved his family and friends fiercely.

Details of George's celebration of Life in New York will be announced in the coming months.

George's family humbly requests that you consider donating in his honor to Harmony House (www.myharmonyhouse.org), a resource for male victims of domestic violence or any mental health organization of your choosing.

Dawnmarie, we are so sorry that you lost your brother. I never met him but if he was anything like you, the world lost a wonderful person.

I can´t believe you left us after everything you went through. A good man, big heart and a great friend. I will miss our weekly FaceTime cooking. Love Dawn (not his wonderful sister)

So sad to hear the news. We didn't manage to keep in touch much though adulthood, but I have great memories of growing up with him. Mostly chasing each other around on our dirt bikes and very grateful to have made it on one of those Daytona trips. I miss knowing he's not there and yes, he was a great cook too. My thoughts and prayers go out to you both, family and friends.

Dawn-I struggle to find the right words. I am heartbroken for you and your mom and so very, very sorry for your loss. I hope he is resting easy now. He was beyond lucky to have you as his sister. I will keep you in my prayers.
