George O'Connor III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2025.
Fiskdale - George A. O'Connor III, age 73, passed away peacefully on July 30,2025 after a brief illness. He is preceeded in death by his parents George and Irene (Dexter) O'Connor, sisters Maureen Chase and Eileen Williams.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 52 years Karen (Leonard) O'Connor, his son Timothy and wife Erin of Biddeford, ME, daughter Katie Ryan and husband Michael of Avon, CT and daughter Meaghan Tardanico and husband Steven of Sturbridge, MA as well as his grandchildren Aibhlin O'Connor (fiancé Griffin Caswell), Kiernan and Shea O'Connor, Owen and Lily Ryan, and Liam Tardanico.

George dedicated his time to helping others. He retired as a Lieutenant on the Taunton Fire Department where he spent 24 years serving his community. He then worked as a van driver for Blooms, safely escorting children to and from school for over a decade.

While raising his family in Taunton, George also raised many batting averages across the city and beyond. He spent countless hours in batting cages and ball fields for the better part of 20 years. It brought him great joy and pride to watch kids improve their game while remembering to have fun doing so. His coaching spanned baseball and softball from little league to the college level, and remained some of his greatest memories.

George was kind and generous, quick- witted and tough as nails. He battled through several health issues, yet was always there to answer the call for someone in need. He quietly exemplified qualities and values that benefitted those around him, despite being the only Yankees fan they knew in Massachusetts.

In his last selfless act, he did not request formal services but rather a celebration of his life and all the good times he had. His family will honor his wish this fall, with invitation to his brothers and sisters of the Taunton FD and his many family members and friends.
