SCHIETINGER George Joseph Schietinger, age 81, of Deer Park, N.Y. and Hudson, Fla., passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2007. A direct descendant from one of the first families of Connecticut, George was born and raised in Bridgeport. After serving with the Navy during World War II, he married Emma Gene in 1949. In 1963, George and Gene moved to North Babylon, N.Y. to raise their family. Known by his nieces and nephews as "Big George," he was a devoted father who loved traveling, camping and fishing with his sons and brother. Talented at maintaining his home and garden beautifully, George was also a dedicated worker who retired from Air France after 35 years of service. After retiring, George, Gene and son, Paul moved to Hudson, Fla. in 1992 where he enjoyed the warmer weather. Recently George and Gene came back to Long Island to be closer to their family. George will be remembered for his ability to light up a room with his humor and contagious smile. George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Emma Gene; three sons, George and Elena Schietinger of Manhasset, N.Y., Thomas Schietinger and Anna DiCicco of Deer Park, N.Y. and John and Erica Schietinger of Yorktown Heights, N.Y. He will be missed by grandchildren, Cole, Kent, Grant, Will and Jack; brother, Ray and Corinne Schietinger of Orange. George joins his late son, Paul, in heaven.
