George "Shotsie" Johnson Obituary
The son of William and Sarah "Sadie" Johnson, he was a veteran of World War II and a sergeant with the United States Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Harry, William, and Thomas and 2 sisters Betty and Ann.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Lutz Johnson, 1 son, Dennis and his wife, Joyceann of West Milford, NJ; daughters Janis Johnson Scott of Sarasota, Fl, Pamela Perry and husband, Bobby of Tobyhanna, PA, Kathleen Warblow and her husband, Dick of Lutz, FL and Karen Guglielmini and her husband, Vinny of Sarasota, Fl. He had 4 Grandchildren, Alyssia O'Malley, Daniel Lampe, Jamie Harris and Ashley Harris and 2 Great Grandchildren Alexa and Ryan O'Malley.
"Shotsie" was inducted into Central High School Hall of Fame for Football, Baseball and Basketball. He was a member of The Association of Professional Ball Players of America, and during the 1940's played semi-pro baseball in the Grapefruit League. In the 1970's he developed a love for the game of golf, and after retiring became a ranger at Eastwood Golf Course in Ft Myers, Fl.
We wish to thank Tidwell Hospice for all the care and comfort they provided him in his final day.
Our sincere thanks to the staff of Emeritus, colonial Park, for the care, compassion and love you all gave to George for the years he was a resident with you. I'm sure he's "Singing" his songs with thoughts of you in his heart.
With his amazing blue eyes, bright silver hair and always a smile on his face, "Shotsie" never met a stranger.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, a part of our hearts has died along with him. Forever we will miss and love him.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, September 20th at 11:00 at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home, 170 Honore Ave Sarasota with the burial immediately following at the Sarasota National Cemetery on Clark Road.

I remember his amazing blue eyes and gorgeous silver hair. Most of all, I remember the wonderful smile that light up his entire face when he greeted people. To My Dad,
You could not only sing but you were the best dancer too. You had charsma and charm of anyone I knew. Anytime we got the chance to dance and I looked into your beatiful face it was such a special feeling between the both of us. You were such a wonderful father and father in law, and the greatest grandpa ever. I miss so very much but I know you are in a better place now and singing up a storm. Dad, You were the best father-in-law anyone could ever wish for. You always treated me as one of your daughters, whom you cherished so much. How fortunate I am to have such a wonderful and loving family. And, yes, I was always jealous of your blue eyes and long black eye lashes -- I felt only I should have them, not you. I'm winking back at you because I know I'm your favorite daughter-in-law and always will be. Love you always, and kisses to all my aunts and uncles you are now with. I was so very sad to hear the news about Shotsie's passing. Thank you, Janis, for letting me know. I will always remember him as the gracious man who sang beautifully no matter what the occasion. My sincere sympathy is extended to Helen and the rest of the Johnson family. Rest in peace, Shotsie! Take your rightful place in the Angel's Choir!

Aunt Helen, Dennis, Janis, Pam, Karen, Kathy, spouses and grandchildren...So sorry to hear of Uncle George's passing. Not many families have the wonderful memories that our family has. I'll never forget thinking there was no other beer other than Shaeffer! I'm sure there was a wonderful family reunion. Rest In Peace Uncle George!

FYI...When we were little, Mom always said that thunder was "the angels bowling" and lightening was when they made a strike. The weather service is predicting a big storm for NJ on Tues.Coincidence or might that noise just be the Johnson Clan?

Well what can I say about George James Johnson. What a lucky man to have all of his kids and wife around him for such a long time. He was one of the funniest men I ever knew. I loved living at 123 Glenwild and playing Linda Rondstadt for him and watching golf together. What fun. I learned how to drink a Schaefer beer for breakfast to help with the hangover. What a lucky man to have been able to grace this earth with his presence for such a long time. I'm sure there were many waiting at the pearly gates with open arms and a drink in their hand. Please know that my heart aches for you all but knowing that he's up there watching over us with some of the "best" gives me peace. I hope it will bring you peace too. Love you all, Sue
