George Stamas, age 80 of Lakewood Township, NJ, died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Millennium Memory Care Center in Ocean Township. He was born in Orange and raised in West Orange, NJ until moving to Lakewood in 1992. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, proudly serving his country in the United States Army. He worked for the Prudential Insurance Company as a Computer Operator for 33 years, retiring in 1988. Upon moving to Lakewood, he was employed by the Lakewood Country Club for 17 years, retiring in 2010. That job, combined his favorite past time, golf, with assisting players at the club, that is open to the public.

He was a devoted parishioner of Saint Dominic's Roman Catholic Church in Brick, NJ. He is survived by his loving sister, Margaret Maxwell and her husband Charles of Brick as well as his niece Karen Deckelnick and her husband Joe, also of Brick. Friends may attend a Memorial Gathering Tuesday, March 8, 2016, between 7-9 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88 in Brick, NJ. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Dominic's Church, Route 88 and Van Zile Road. also in Brick. The interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to George's favorite charity, Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (alzfdn.org.)

Played many rounds with George he was a character. I'll never forget our Myrtle Beach trips. Play well in heaven George.

My late wife and I played golf with George many times. He was a fine gentleman. My condolences to his family. The world could use more people like George.
