TOTH
GEORGE W.
Age 86, of Neville Township, on Holy Saturday, April 10, 2004. Born August 15, 1917. Husband of the late Kathryn (Adler) Toth. Son of the late Ferdinand and Julia (Lang) Toth. Loving brother of Edward J. Toth and the late Ferdinand, John and Julia (Sevick) Toth. He was survived by a host of nieces and nephews, too numerous to list. George was born in McKees Rocks and received his basic education in the McKees Rocks School District. He graduated from Miles Bryan High School in 1935. In 1941 he married Kathryn and moved to Neville Island. In 1936 George began working for the Dravo Corp. He was initially hired as a laborer to help clean up the damage caused by the St. Patrick's Day Flood in 1936. After the clean up, George became a permanent employee, starting out as a time keeper and handyman in the machine shop. George was enlisted in the US Army in 1942. He became a Corporal and subsequently was given the rank of Staff Sergeant. Most of the time was spent as an investigator out of the Provost Marshall's Office assisting in conducting character and loyalty checks on civilians scheduled to work overseas. Since George was 1A physically and the infantry needed replacements he was transferred to the Texas Oklahoma Division stationed in Munich, Germany. He was in Germany when the war ended and he was sent back to the states after completing 48 months of service. George returned home and went back to work for Dravo. He was employed by Dravo for 43 years, which included 4 years of Army time. Back home he became involved in politics, and was elected Neville Township Commissioner and served for 12 years, from 1968 until 1980. Highlights of his term as commissioner included: 1. Installation of new water lines 2. Establishment of the Valley Ambulance Authority 3. Sealing off the river end of the surface water lines to prevent flooding on Neville Island. A cooperative board of commissioners made it possible. George served on the Board of Directors for the German Beneficial Union from 1970 - 1986. The GBU is a Fraternal Benefit Insurance Society. VISITATION TUESDAY 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the COPELAND'S CORAOPOLIS 867 Fifth Ave, where a Blessing Service will be on Wed. 10 am followed by a Full Military Service. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to Forbes Hospice c/o Forbes Health Foundation, 2570 Haymaker Road, Monroeville, PA 15146.

My deepest sympathy to the family. I worked with George at Dravo for 26 years and my respect for his integrity and as a person overall just continued to grow over the years. His sense of humor and calming presence made all those who came in contact with him feel better after spending time with him. He was truly an unforgetable character, and I will always remember the many good times we shared. May God Bless you, old friend.
