Georgia Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 19, 2025.
Georgia Lilly Blount Portis Adams was born to Willie and Janie Blount on December 19, 1934, in Claiborne, Alabama. She started her career path as an educator in the Gary Public School System serving over 40+ years. She graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She was the first college graduate of the family and has inspired her grandchildren to go on to further their education.

Sister Adams was a lover of the Lord and of his Holy Word! She was a wonderful mother, not only to us, but also a mother figure to our Central Drive/Illinois Street neighborhood family. We had the best neighborhood and she and Josephine Bonner (Ms. Phine as we called her) were the last two remaining mothers and they remained great friends. Mother was a great baker of pound cakes, sweet potato pies, homemade ice cream and could make a meal out of anything. When the great grandkids were sick, they always wanted to go to GG's house so she could make them chicken noodle soup, which they said was the best and made them feel so much better!

Serving the Lord faithfully at the Israel CME Church being a member of the Gospel Chorus and a booster for the Male Chorus. After marrying Deacon Eddie Adams, she joined the congregation of Christ Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Colvin Blanford and currently Pastor Lawrence E. Robertson until her transition. She served as a Choir member, Deaconess, Congregational Care, Women for Christ, Vacation Bible School and the Baptismal Ministry. She was a lover of people, education, a willing worker and giver to the things of the Kingdom of God. Mother boarded the old ship of Zion on Friday, August 8, 2025. She will be greatly missed and deeply loved until that great day!

Proceeded in death by parents, 10 of 11 siblings; husband Eddie Adams, daughters Josie Mae Blount Nichols; Edie Brazelton; granddaughter, Syreeda Candice Portis and grandson, LaMonte Brazelton and great granddaughter, Deleiyon Thames.

Survived by one sister, Opelila (Charles) Lamar, two sons, Larry (Vanessa) Portis, Christopher Portis, two daughters Annette and Camille Portis; Bonus children; Bertha Williams, Shirley Conneley, Stanley Adams, Ronald (Trelles) Adams; sixteen grandchildren, Larry Nichols, Jr, Tilaya Portis, Jacinda (Douglas) Thames, Stephen (Shanavia) Portis, LaDonna (Chris) Beal, Christopher Burnett, Shanetta Portis, Latonia (Trevis) Jones, Devon Adams, Tiffaney Adams, Dominic Adams, Preston Adams, Stephen (Ronisha) Adams, Amber Adams, Agnes (a/k/a Dorcus) Adams and Shaquetta Adams.
