Dear Kathleen,
I am shocked and deeply saddened by the news of your mother's passing. I cannot begin to imagine the pain of your loss. I have cried for you, for your sister, for your dad and for the whole Coyne and Rankin family over the past few weeks. I'm just so sad for you all.
Your mother was a lovely person who had such concern and love for you, and I know for Frances and your dad too. I feel blessed to have known you and your family for as long as I did and in the capacity that I did. I will always hold our memories close.
May my writing today act as a big hug from me to you. May it bring you the comfort, warmth and support you will need to get through the days, months and years ahead.
I am thinking of you now as I have been since I heard the news. Please know you will continue to be in my thoughts as you work through your pain.

I am so sorry to hear about Geraldine's passing. I was in Ft.Mc for years, and now we live in New Jersey. She was a wonderful person, and her legacy will not be forgotten by any of us whose lives she touched.
My daughter Mariah is 8 years old, and on January 3rd, she sang "Gillis Mountain" to a gym full of students in New Jersey. She stood on the stage by herself and said "this song was written by The Rankin Family of Nova Scotia, Gillis Mountain." She did a beautiful job, and the students were able to ask questions, and one child said to her, "Mariah, how long have you been singing that song?" She said, "Oh, about 6 years!" She wasn't far off, everytime we get in the car, she says, "Mom, put on #5" which is Gillis Mountain. She loves, The Rankin's and Bruce Stinksteen!! (She couldn't pronounce Springsteen, so she would say Stinksteen.) I am telling you all this, just to let you know that Geraldine's sprit is alive and will always be alive in our home in New Jersey. There is no love greater then the love of a "mother". It was an "honor" for Lornie (Cameron) when you, Jimmy, wrote a song about his brother "Tripper" and he will always feel a closeness to all of you. In closing he did meet Seamus at Devco Beach where he and his family stayed before his marriage to Geraldine and many years later he met him again in Ft.McMurray where he was kind enough to give him his number in case he needed work. Seamus, Kathleen and Frances, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I sang with Geraldine at the 5 0'clock mass at St. John's in Ft. McMurray. She often shared stories of the times she and her siblings cavorted around Cape Breton playing at weddings and other functions. The story about the electric piano falling out of the car had us falling over laughing. I haven't seen her since she moved but I want you to know I have been praying for all of you over the last few days and will continue to do so.
