Geraldine M. "Jerry" Ellsworth, 96, of Alma, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Elk Rapids. Jerry was born December 22, 1914 in Harrisville, the daughter of John and Lottie (Lee) Dunbar. When a fire destroyed the Lobdell Manufacturing Plant in Onaway in 1926, she moved with her family to St. Louis, where her father continued to work for the same company, later known as Lobdell-Emery Manufacturing in Alma. She was a 1934 graduate of St. Louis High School, and on June 19, 1934 in St. Louis, married Charles Ellsworth, who preceded her in death in 2004. Jerry was employed for 27 years at the D & C Variety Store in St. Louis, also known as the Dime Store, and enjoyed traveling, spending time at the cottage at Lake Margrethe in Grayling, and was a former member of the Rebecca Lodge in St. Louis. Surviving is her daughter, Jacquelyn "Jackie" (Gordon) Sandel of St. Louis, three grandsons; Scott (Eileen) Sandel of Cheboygan, Mark (Anita) Sandel of Elwell, and Lance Sandel of Alma, three great grandchildren; Charlie, Colin, and Emiliee, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Terry, 5 sisters; Hazel Edwards, Laurel Smith, Velma Littlefield, Marie Foote, and Dorothy Schafer, and 2 brothers; Chauncy and Harrison Dunbar. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 4, at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am, at the Smith Funeral Home, St. Louis Chapel. Burial will be at Ithaca Cemetery.
