To the Kelly family: I only just read about Jerry and am shocked. I had the privilege of serving with him in the Marine Corps in Alpha Company, 2nd Tank Battalion at Camp Lejeune in 1972. He was a very professional officer and leader of Marines with a very upbeat, enthusiastic attitude and a memorable smile. With deepest sympathy.

Dear Mrs. Kelly, Caitlin and Torin,

I am very, very sad to hear of your loss. Mr. Kelly was a great man and wonderful sensei. I will miss seeing him at the rink or on the mat or even by chance at the hardware store. He always had a smile and kind word for me and I will truely miss him. I wish you all the best in these hard times.

To the Kelly Family,

The news that Jerry was no longer with us truly saddened me. During my time in our McLean Office Jerry and I worked closely together. I was successful because of his guidence and his wisdom. He was a professional and a great person to work with. He was simply one of the best! He will be forever remembered.

I have had the pleasure of working closely with Gerry the past many years and he was always a pleasure to talk to and work with. We often discussed hockey (me being a transplanted CDN) as well as the summer Wyoming residence he was so proud of. My condolences and may God Bless you!

I will miss Gerry from the bottom of my heart. He has shown me much wisdom and has always offered me much consistent help to go through difficult times as comfortably as possible. Harmony and unity of the body, mind and spirit, that is the way of Aikido he so well explained. To the Kelly family, I am but a stranger, and if for any reason I could be of any help, please let me know. Gerry showed me best that being able to help someone you don't know at all can reward you with so much hapiness, at whatever the risk.

I think we who had the privilege of having been Jerry's friend and coworkers feel a deep sense of loss. I can only hope that a bit of what made him so very special can be remembered and at best emulated in all of us.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family due to your loss of Jerry. I knew Jerry through work at Gartner. He was a pleasure to work with and get to know personally. What I liked most about him was that he had only positive things to say about everything--work/family/life. God Bless all you. Jerry will be truly missed.

Jerry and I had many things in common - same sense of humor, former Marines, and daughters approximately the same ages. We talked often, and almost always either began or ended our conversations with one of us saying - "so how are the girls doing?" He was very proud of, and deeply committed to his family. We will all miss him very much.

My husband and I met Gerry in Cabo this year. Although we had never crossed paths at work, I know he was held in high esteem by everyone he has worked with. In Cabo, we had a great time floating on the Pacific, watching humpback whales and sea lions, and chatting about his time in the service, etc... He was a true gentleman and we will miss seeing him at future events.

God Bless & our deepest condolences,

My condolences to the Kelly family for your loss, Jerry was a tremendous inspiration to us at the Minnesota Ki Society. He was one of my favorite instructors and a primary reason for my continued interest in the art of Aikido. We enjoyed swapping war stories and hearing about his Marine Corps experiences. Jerry always taught us to smile during training. His spirit filled the room and he will be deeply missed. I am confident that Jerry is still smiling on us all. We will pray for his family and ask God’s blessings upon them.

To the Kelly Family - I had the honor of working with Jerry for the last 3.6 years. I can't tell you how saddened I was to hear of his passing. Jerry and I had talked a few days before, he was so happy to be back in Story. Jerry was a unique individual who touched all the people he met. He always told me stories of family vacatons (long car trips with the kids), he never failed to make me laugh, was a truly a gentle person who loved life and his family. I will miss Jerry, but will carry with me warm thoughts and will always be thankful for the opportunity to have known him. My sincerest sympathy on your loss.

Leslie, Caitlin, and Torin:

I wanted to tell you what a dear person Jerry was to me. He always spoke lovingly about his life/family. He helped me on many occassions even when I was no longer part of his territory. I was on the phone with Jerry doing a sales call during the 9/11 events. I had the best conversation with him at the sales meeting about his life as an "American Soldier" and the meaning of the Toby Keith song. Jerry's kindness, integrity, and pride made an impact. My thoughts are with you.

Dear Leslie, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. My wife Cheryl and I had met you and Gerry in Aruba and had a fantastic dinner together and really enjoyed that night with you both. Dear Leslie, Catlin, and Torin,

Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. It was a great shock to see Jerry's name appear as I read through Sunday's StarTribune obituaries. I will truly miss my good friend, Aikido sempai, and mentor in this world. He and I shared many interests and some common history...in many ways I've considered him somewhat of a renaissance man, steeped in the past while always open to trying new adventures (such as kayaking). May your good memories of him help you through this difficult time.

If there's anything that I can do to help, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Tom Edmond
