Gerhard Ganes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 21 to Nov. 23, 2007.
Gerhard Ganes 1909 2007 Gerhard passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior in the early morning of Tuesday, November 20, 2007. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Grace (Dale) White and his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Derek), Kimberly and Tybie, and his two precious great grandchildren, Brittney and Boden; brother and sisters, Myrtle Aadland, Arnold (Evelyn) Ganes, Jewel (James) nee Cochran; sistersin-law, Selma Ganes and Eleanor Ganes. Gerhard is also remembered by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many special friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Edna (Anderson) Ganes; parents, Christian and Gunda (Vallevand) Ganes; brothers, Obert (Ella), Mervyn, Tamer, and Kermit (Adeline); sisters, Viola (Leslie) Cook, Florella (Alvin) Olson, and one sister in infancy. Gerhard was born near Elbow, Saskatchewan on May 29, 1909. Later his family moved to Hagen, SK. On August 10, 1955 he married Edna Anderson. They lived in Hagen and Melfort before coming to Saskatoon, where they permanently resided. He worked various jobs on the farm before taking up his beloved career as a carpenter. He worked for Myers Construction for many years until his retirement. After retirement he continued to do many carpenter jobs for both friends and at the church. Also included as one of his favourite retirement pastimes was his daily visits to McDonald's for many years, then later to Tim Horton's for his coffee and to spend times with old friends and new friends that he met there. He always enjoyed the fellowship he had with his family and friends, readily sharing his faith at any opportunity. He will be remembered for his dedication and love for God, which was evident in the words that he spoke and the life that he lived. Special thanks to the staff at Porteous Lodge and also to the staff in emergency and on 6200 at RUH, who gave him such good care in his last days. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from Rock of Ages Lutheran Brethren Church, 130 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon, SK, officiated by Pastor Art Hundeby. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerhard's honour can be made to the Ronald MacDonald House, Tim Hortons Camps for Kids, or the Gideon Bible Society. Condolences to the family can be sent by email to park@arbormemorial. Arrangements entrusted to Lynn Constantinoff (Park Funeral Chapel, 244-2103).

Grace:

I was very saddened to hear about the passing of your father. I only found out today. I will always remember your Dad's lengthy prayers during Wednesday night prayer meetings. At that time I thought they would never end, but now I remember them fondly as those prayers displayed the passion and dedication your Dad had to serve God in every aspect of his life.

Thinking of you.

Dear Grace and family,
The wonderful picture you chose of Uncle Gerhard for his obituary made me cry and laugh as soon as i saw it!...Cry, because i really miss him.... And laugh, because of that trademark twinkle in his eye that said, "I have something wise (and sometimes something funny) to share with you". And he'd take your hand in his, and look deep in your eyes, and you just knew you needed to listen, because he had been spending time with Jesus. And when he said he was praying for you, he really meant it! That always meant so much to me!
I have many precious memories of the time i lived in his basement as a University student...singing together at McDonald's, praying together in his living room, him giving me endless potatos and veggies from his garden when i couldn't afford groceries, and of course, listening to relationship advice over a cup of coffee! :o)
Blessed be his memory!
Love, Heather Danielson and family

Grace and Dale - I know you miss your Dad, but at the same time I know you are very happy that he has gone home, a place he was certainly waiting for with great aniticipation. We now celebrate his amazing life. I will certainly miss my great uncle. You will recall I stayed with your parents for 3 years during university and I remember those years fondly. Phrases like intense love and passion for the Lord, care for people, mischievous character, increadibly competitive, unrelenting compassion, a spryness befiting a 20 year old, a life dedicated to giving come to mind. Peace.

Grace, Dale, Jen, Kim, and Tybie,
I know that you all will miss him. He made me laugh and amazed me at how he shared the Gospel. He always had this light in his eyes, you just couldn't miss it, such a sparkle that it would always catch my eye and many others I'm sure. Take care and God bless you all,
Megan

Dear Grace & family,
Your Dad had such a wonderful testimony of love for God and everyone with whom he interacted. He is certainly rejoicing in heaven at this time along with all his family there and friends including my father. I remember so well the duets that Gerhard and Clifford sang at Rock of Ages over the years. Your Dad was a good friend for my Dad. May God provide comfort and help you to rejoice with him. Sorry that my family and I are not able to be there today at the funeral.

Love,
Clair Haugrud & family

Dear Grace, Dale & family,
No matter how old our parents are when they move on from this world we miss them dearly - but what rejoicing in heaven as one so faithful as your Dad is welcomed home. I remember him with great fondness from my childhood and the many times we visited and I stayed with your family as a child. He loved life; he loved people; he loved jokes and laughter and most of all he loved Jesus. The twinkle in his eye must be magnificent in heaven! May God be with you and comfort you and bring you peace always. Love, Fern & family

Dear Grace,Dale and family,
It is with a smile that I remember both of your parents. Remember how they cared for the young cousins in the house on 5th.
Trust that you will feel God's peace, and receive His love and strength as you need them.
I will always remember his love of singing and playing the guitar to the glory of God.
We will be praying for you tomorrow.
Bless you all,

Hi Grace,

We have so many good memories of your dad at Rock of Ages where Carol and I were married in 1968. He was a very familar and consistent man who loved the Lord and lived a life of integrity! Blessed be his memory. I don't remember one conversation that didn't include something about God and ministry. You have a wonderful heritage to pass on to your children and grandchildren. We are sorry we can't attend the funeral and we are glad that my cousin Art is taking the funeral service. May God give you special peace and comfort this day and the weeks and months ahead.

Love from Glenn and Carol Miller

It is so hard to lose a loved one. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!
What a long and beautiful life Gerhard lived!
I will never forget the stories he told. What a story teller he was! One that I thought was particularly funny was when he was in a bar in Prince Albert. Gerhard was witnessing to the people inside and he ended up playing his guitar for them! He was always so bold, proud, and excited to share God's love in every opportunity. A real role model!

We are sad in one way to hear of your dad's death, Grace but in another way, we are rejoicing because he is Home with the Lord and with his family and friends. He was really longing for that wasn't he! Can't you just see him there.....amazed at the Love of Jesus and praising Him whom he loved so much. We are so sorry we can't be there in person but our thoughts and prayers are with you. We love you.

I'm very sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Mr. Ganes was a real gentleman. He always shared his life experiences and re-assured me that God's way & God's timing is the best. I was so impressed every time I visited him he remembered me and my Chinese friends very well. With every visit I was encouraged by your Dad with God's words. His advice, his smiles with his humble spirit will be treasured in my heart. Now he is heaven with his BIG smile, " Alice ... God's way and His timing is the best!"
