Obituary of Gertrude (Barrie) Emily Elma Elmitt (nee Barrie) Born December 6, 1906 at Watson's Corners, Perth, Ontario, Gertrude (Barrie) Emily Elma Elmitt died on December 6, 2007 in Vancouver, British Columbia at Inglewood Nursing Home. A long time resident of North Bay, Ontario, Barrie Elmitt graduated from The Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital nursing college on June 29, 1929 where she was presented the Medal for Proficiency in Obstetrics by Dr. A.E. Ranney in a ceremony conducted at the auditorium of the Normal School in North Bay. Barrie married Alfred Campbell (Cam) Elmitt in 1937. Cam was a lifelong employee of the Ontario Northland Railway and predeceased Barrie in 1973. Barrie Elmitt was a strong supporter of the Emanuel United Church in Ferris, Ontario. Barrie moved to Vancouver in 1985, to be closer to members of her family. A cherished mother and grandmother, Barrie will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves a son, James Garry Elmitt of California and a daughter-in-law, Gillian Danby of Guelph, Ontario, three grandchildren; Julie Anne Reid of Greenwich, Connecticut, James Stefen Elmitt of Vancouver, British Columbia and Martin Stewart Elmitt of Vancouver, British Columbia. Mrs. Elmitt also leaves four great-grandchildren; Cheyne Alessa Charlotte Reid, Richard Gavin Peregrine Reid, both of Greenwich, Connecticut, Shannon McKinney Elmitt and Stephanie Mary Elmitt, both of Vancouver, British Columbia.
