Gilbert Stemm Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 18, 2025.
Gilbert Wayne "Gil" Stemm, 84, passed away on February 15, 2025, in Lake. Mary, Florida.

Born on July 24, 1940, in Glouster, Ohio, Gil's life was one of passion and dedication. His love for animals, particularly horses and tropical birds, shaped much of his career and personal pursuits. As a professional horse trainer specializing in Saddlebred show horses, Gil spent many years working with these magnificent animals, leaving a lasting impact on the equestrian community.

Beyond his work with horses, Gil was also an entrepreneur, owning pet stores in Maryville and Delaware, Ohio. His deep appreciation for animals extended beyond business-it was a lifelong devotion that brought him great joy.

Music was another cornerstone of Gil's life. A talented violinist, he played for the Central Ohio Symphony in Delaware, Ohio, as well as other orchestras throughout Ohio and Florida. His love for music extended to teaching; he shared his gift by giving violin lessons both in Ohio and later in Florida, inspiring many students along the way.

Faith played a role in Gil's life as a member of the Church of Christ.

Gil is survived by his wife, Jean Stemm; son, Gary Stemm; siblings Martha "Marti" Stemm and Gerald Stemm; and goddaughter Katie Whitlatch along with her beloved family. He had special affection and gratitude for care support in Florida by a sister in Christ, Beverly Dill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Marie Stemm; grandparents Anna and James Stemm and Leslie and Bernice Chappelear; and brother Larry Stemm.

Gil's legacy lives on through the lives he touched-whether through music, his work with animals, or the love he shared with family and friends. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
