Gioia M. Mina (nee Galgano), 90, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024, in Carmel, New York. Born on December 9, 1933, in White Plains, New York, she led a life of devotion to education, her family, and her parish community.

Gioia was a graduate of Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, Good Counsel College, and earned her Master's Degree in Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz. She dedicated over 30 years of her life to teaching elementary students at Hawthorne and Thornwood Elementary Schools, shaping young minds with her unique brand of patience and care.

Beyond her professional life, Gioia was deeply involved in her church, Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, where she met her late husband, Paul Mina. Together, they enjoyed 38 years of marriage as they shared in their love for music, travel, golf, and social events with friends and family. Gioia also cherished her time spent at the beach, reading, cooking and entertaining, and enriching the lives of all who came to know her. The Mina home was often the heart of family gatherings and holiday celebrations where she delighted in sharing new recipes and culinary dishes.

Gioia is survived by her nephews and nieces, Louis J. Galgano, III, and Joan Del Cielo, Margaret and Robert Civitano, Thomas and Kathleen Galgano, Ellen and Larry LePere, Joanne and George O'Donnell, Linda and Dennis Whalen, Donna and John Wishnie, Jill and Edward Sheehan, Theodore, Jr. and Denise Galgano, and many loving grandnephews, grandnieces, great grandnephews and great grandnieces. She is also survived by her stepsons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Barbara Mina, William and Maxine Mina, James and Ivette Mina; her grandchildren, Brandon, Travis, Michelle, Theresa, Noah, Thomas and her great grandchild, Chloe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mina, her stepdaughter Mary Mina, her parents Louis J. Galgano, Sr., and Theodora Galgano (nee Maffucci), her brothers, Louis J. Galgano, Jr., and Theodore Galgano, Sr., her nephew, Stephen M. Galgano, and her grandnephew, Bennett W. Galgano.

A memorial service celebrating both the lives of Gioia and Paul will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 920 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains on Saturday, December 7th at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Church, White Plains.
