YORBA LINDA, Calif. — Gladys H. Comer, 97, died peacefully at the Belmont Guests Retreat on Sunday, June 15, 2008. She leaves her son, James E. Comer, of Princeton and his wife, Cheryl; her daughter, Kaaren C. Powell, of Yorba Linda, and her husband, Larry M.; a granddaughter, Lauren M. Kantor; three great-grandchildren, Jakob, Caroline and Annalise Kantor, of Swampscott; and a nephew, N. Wesley Hook, of Bethany, Conn. She was predeceased by her husband, James Edward Comer, in 1966, and her grandson, Patrick J. Comer, in March of this year.

Gladys graduated from Kendall Hall Finishing School in Beverly Farms and held restaurant management positions for many years, retiring from the Yankee Drummer Inn in Auburn in 1972.

Gladys lived in Auburn from 1948 until retiring to Cape Cod in 1972. She belonged to the Auburn Garden Club and attended the First Congregational Church. Gladys lived in South Yarmouth for 30 years, where she was a member of the South Yarmouth United Methodist Church. She relocated to Anaheim Hills, Calif., in 2001, where she resided at the Canyon Hills Club. Gladys was a lifetime member of the Gold Star Wives of America and the Red Hat Society, Chapter 5836, and attended the Calvary Chapel Church at Canyon Hills Club. She loved gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery, Auburn, at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to the South Yarmouth United Methodist Church, Old Main Street, South Yarmouth, MA 02664.
