Glen Winegeart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 16, 2024.
Glen Avery Winegeart went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Glen was born on August 29, 1955, in Gonazales, Texas to Vearl and Glenna Winegeart. He was also welcomed by proud grandparents, Sion and Ethel Winegeart and Emmitt and Sallie Mills. Nearly four years later, Glen became a proud big brother to his sister, Phyllis.

Glen was happily involved in several school and community activities including theater, government, and football, graduating high school in 1973 on scholarship.

Glen chose to pursue the College of Pharmacy at UT Austin and was consistently named on the honor roll.

Glen married the love of his life, Ellen, on July 11, 1981, in Dallas, Texas. Glen, a pharmacist, and Ellen, a kindergarten teacher, began building their life and tight knit community together in Arlington. They welcomed the first son, Bryan in 1984 and Blake in 1987.

In the summer of 2000, Glen and the crew moved to Tyler, quickly building their community through Green Acres Baptist Church. Glen worked as a pharmacist for Good's Pharmacy and later for Brookshire's. He was respected for his sharp mind and knowledge of medicine but more than that, he was revered for his intentional care for people, including those working alongside him.

When not at work, Glen was often found joining his sons in whatever sports they were interested in or embarking on outdoor adventures together, doing yard work, and accompanying his wife, Ellen, to youth and college ministry events, trips, and service projects. They served in the church student area with folks who became their dearest friends-John Taff, Nat and Scarlett Hughes, and Velvet "V" Potter.

In 2011 and 2015, Jenna and Jenn joined the family as daughters-in-law, and in 2014, Glen and Ellen became grandparents, a title they both treasured immensely. They now have five grandchildren: Collins Piper, 10, Emma James, 8, Jude Grey, 7, Lincoln Avery 6, and Landry Elizabeth, 2.

In the last three and a half years of Glen's life, he and Ellen were largely supported by several amazing doctors, nurses, and caregivers, along with everyone at Kourage Health. We cannot thank you enough for your constant support.

Glen is survived by his wife, Ellen, his mother, Glenna, his sister, Phyllis and her husband, Mike Blackwell, Glen and Ellen's sons, Bryan and Blake, along with their wives, Jenn and Jenna, and their five grandchildren. He is deeply missed by us all, while we also celebrate his wholeness in heaven. Thank you, Jesus. You are always good.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Green Acres Baptist Church Chapel in Tyler with Don Allensworth officiating. A coffee reception will follow the service. Arrangements by Stewart Family Funeral Home, Tyler.

In lieu of flowers, the Winegeart family asks for donations to be given in memory of Glen Winegeart to Kourage Health, P.O. Box 8257, Tyler, TX 75711 (Kouragehealth.org).
