Dear Pastor Black and family,

My family and I were saddened to hear of Sister Glenda Black’s death. She was a beautiful person, inside and out. She was a quiet and gentle spirit encased in an abounding faith, a great love for her husband and family and an even greater love for her God. We pray God’s great comfort, love, and strength for you and your family, both now and in the times to come. As Christians, we are taught that God is the source of everything that we need in and for life, remember. Many of us in Arkansas (former church members) continue to love and pray for you and your family. Be blessed.

I can still see and feel Sis. Black’s smile. Smiling… Her smile was soothing on any given day whether she was in my presence or not and it still is. Her smile reflected so much of Whose and who she was that even now when I see it in my mind, or on a picture tears fill my eyes, some of sadness but mostly peace and joy. Peace and joy because I know she served God by serving others and she fulfilled her God given purpose while touching my life as well as so many others.

Through you guys, Pastor, I saw that a marriage can be a honeymoon even beyond the first year allllllllllllllll the way beyond the 30 plus years and then some. Thank you! I often remark to family and friends that you guys were like 30 plus year honeymooners. I know it takes the faithful work of God to keep a marriage godly and strong. Though I am in no rush, I have an example to follow.

I can still hear her voice from the Sunday when she told us about the cancer, “Beulah I don’t know why God is taking me through this, but when He shares it with me I will share it with you.” She did just that through Sisters of Faith, her faith walk, her faith talk, her smile, her will to endure with such patience, love, dedication, commitment, laughter, inner and outer beauty and her obedience, not just within you guys’ home and Beulah but beyond.

I can still see Sis. Black on that same Sunday throwing out blessings (not physically, but spiritually) like she had a pale in one hand and using the other hand to grab hold of the blessings and throw them out to us. Smiling… She said, “Beulah if I could…” I can still fill her sincerity. She was true to her Lord and her word. She did pour out upon us the blessings God extended to her. (Funny that was the last Sunday I think I wore mascara, because someone approached me to let me know the mascara was smeared beyond my eyes. Not cute at all. Smiling…)

Sis. Black was an awesome woman of God!!! The Proverbs Woman! Dorcas! Ruth! Her spirit wasn’t only willing, but giving! She gave of herself unselfishly.

May 2007 as I stood to do the welcome during Revival, nervous as always, I looked over at Sis. Black. I saw her smile. I smiled back and continued to look at her from time-to-time. Her smile was comforting and as I stated still is. It’s staying forever and ever!

Haaaaaaa I remember one Sunday (4:00 o’clock service) I was sitting in the vestibule with a youth (Aleah) who had smashed her finger in a car door. Sis. Black stopped as she was headed into the sanctuary. She asked us what was wrong. I shared what happened. She asked Aleah “do you want me to kiss it and make it better?” Smiling… Aleah shook her head no, but through the pain she was able to smile. Sis. Black was indeed a comfort. A few seconds later Sis. Black said, “okay it’s time to go into the sanctuary.” I thought I misunderstood what she said. Was I just told to get up? Smiling… I told Sis. Black that we were waiting for the nurse to put a sling on the finger. I laughed to myself and shared it later, because Sis. Black went from Nurse Mom Let Me Make It Better to Discipline Mom Get Up Now and Come On & I Mean It. Funny!

I also remember when Sis. Black stood in the pulpit and said, “Beulah I know something you guys don’t know about your Pastor. “ I believe those were her words. Ooooooooooo when she told us, “he is good, good, good,” Pastor you turned the color of a fire truck. You attempted to say something three times, but no words would come out. Finally you just laughed. There are so many wonderful memories of Sis. Black.

When I think about Sis, Black, I remember the last time I stood close to her. She was wearing yellow sitting in the car with Jennifer McClain and her mother (Sis. Black’s). I looked at her and saw an angel. I had to hurry away from the car, because I could feel the tears. As Sis. Black endured I often thought about what Sis. Lacy shared with me, something that Sis. Jacquelyn Black stated as she endured. “Sis. Lacy God wouldn’t entrust the type of pain He has entrusted to me to just anyone.” God trusted Sis. Black, you, Pastor, and the entire family. I shared with many during the last few months before Sis. Black received her wings, that you Pastor and Sis. Black. were not being tested. God had tested you guys four years before and found you worthy of being trusted with such a task and season. He was testing the Beulah family.

Sis. Black is greatly loved and missed. We love you guys!

Love, Prayers, & Hugs,

Dear Pastor Black,
I was checking the obituary for an upcoming service and came across your wife's announcement and her beautiful picture. I know neither one of you personally but know you both are brother and sister in Christ. My husband and I have attended your service before and enjoyed it and have had the pleasure of enjoying you perform a wedding service. I even remember going to your old church during your transition to the new one and the announcement that your wife was giving her commission from the sell of the church to the church. I thought that was so admirable and I have admired you and your wife both afar since then. After reading the amazing comments about her beautiful personality, none of it suprises. She is everything I imagined and more. Reading about her is encouragement for me to work toward the goals of the true Christian woman.
I think of you and your family always and pray for your strength. After seeing this announcement, I felt compelled to encourage you, especially during this season. This is a time to reflect on the great choice you made in a wife and how magnificently she represented you and smile. The pleasant memories can be one of the most comforting things during a loss and the seasons you most miss them. You will continue in my prayers.
Especially in Christ.

An epitome of classiness and finer womanhood, elegant, faithful, graceful, and intelligent are some of the thoughts that come to mind when I remember Sis Black. In my nearly 20 yrs. of knowing your family, there were only a few times I recall her speaking publicly. However, she had such a beautiful spirit and strong presence that spoke in volumes. She has been such a compelling example of how ladies should conduct themselves. I am very sorry for your loss Rev. Black and children. I am praying for all of you. I hope you can find comfort from the words of one of my favorite songs as a child at Greater Paradise “Your Tears” often sung by a local pastor in Arkansas we would fellowship with. Know that your tears and sadness are just temporary, but there will be a day where He will wipe all tears away.

Here on earth we may say that she lost the fight with her illness, but I’d like to think that she gained the victory in Jesus.

Don't think of her as gone away-her journey's just begun, life holds so many facets-this earth is only one. Just thik of her as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where ther are no days and years. Think how she must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched...for nothing loved is ever lost-and she was loved so much.

May God continue to remind you of the fond memories of your loved one!

There isn't a day that goes by that I am not thinking about Sis Black, and the impact she has made in my life. She was what we as women in Christ are striving to become; a Proverbs 31 Woman (and she was so cute at it (smile). I thank and PRAISE God for choosing to anoint Sis Black with a gift of presence that silently instructed me how to live and conduct my life as a Christian woman. I am FOREVER changed for the better because of her.

Hello Rev. Black and Family,

I am writing from New Salem MB Church. Pastored by Rev. Frank E. Ray, Sr.

Ps. 116:15 states, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints and Eccl. 12:7 states, Then shall the dust return to the earth as is was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it".

With those words I pray that God will bless you daily with brand new mercies that will bring you and your family through.

No one ever asks for these thing. But, when they came, it is good to know that there is someone there with us, during our time of need.

Rev. Black, even though you are a Pastor; no matter how many times you have comforted others during their time of loss, it might still be difficult to believe that God is here with you during your time of need. But, Rev. Black and family, I assure you that He is here with you. He is with you every step of the way.

You may say, Lord, why didn't you spare her life? God could have, but remember as He told us in Genisis, man is also flesh. So, it was not Him, but the flesh that we were made of that failed and could no longer detain God's spirit. So if you are going to be angry, be mad at the ground that we walk on. Had there been something stronger than soild of the earth, I promise you, Mrs. Black would still be here with us, today.

As the saying goes, God may not be there when you need him, but he is always on time. He may not have arrived in time to save Sis. Black, but He did show up afterwards, to keep you from having a mental breakdown and giving up on life as well.

That is why it is important, to not ever think that things can get no worse. They can. They can be a whold lot worse. And if we refuse to look around and count our blessing, the is no doubt in my mind, it will get worse. So, Rev, Black, Lil' Jerry, Tangie, family, friends, members, guests, and the members of the Greater Paradise Baptist Church. Me and my family would like to encourage you to keep on doing the work of God.

No matter how rough times get and dispise how many things do not go our way, God is still God. His power and Glory can not be measured by the small number in calender days. His mercy endureth longer that the 24 hours a day on our clocks. Well after Heaven and earth passeseth away, we will still see the strenght of of Father.

Be strong. Keep your head up. And remember, that Sister Black was just a loan that was given to us.

To the family of Mrs. Glenda Black,

Once again we find ourselves bowed down in humble submission to the divine will of almighty God.
Be assured that the passing of your loved one was his will and that all things done by him are not to be doubted even through we don’t understand.
We hope that these few words will comfort you in the tomorrow’s to come.

There is promise in each sunrise.
There is hope for each new day;
There’s a sunbeam for each raindrop,
There is help along the way.
There is faith for all life’s problems,
There is strength for the trials you face,
There is mercy and compassion,
Even in life’s darkest place.
That makes all life’s sorrows dim.
When you place your hand in God’s hand,
And walk life’s path with him.

We, the Pastor and Members know that she will be missed.

Respectfully Submitted

At this time we just want to say we will surely miss Sister Black since she has gone on to glory. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your many memories bring you comfort when all the phone calls, visits, and letters stop coming. Just look to God and he will surely remind all that your ministry means to Beulah and the community.

We joined Beulah in 2005 after moving here from Shreveport, Louisiana. When we moved to Georgia none of our family lived here and then we joined Beulah and Beulah became our family. I still remember one Easter when my youngest daughter froze up during her speech and began to cry she then walked off the stage but you comforted her with a big hug and a few brief words- You truly are a man God uses to touch the lives of others! We tape th TV ministry and attend services just to hear the word God gives you so keep on keeping on! Your Beulah family is here for you and the family.

To Rev. Black and Family:

My sincere condolence. My daughter is a Member of Beulah and I am a TV and CD member. Pastor Black I recall listening to your sermon (CD) "Desperate" II Kings 5:1-3,10,14 and the choir singing "All Is Well" and of course you backed the choir up and concluded. Singing "All Is Well, All Is Well, "All Is Well With My Soul"

Know that now "All Is Well" " All Is Well, "All Is Well with Sister Black's Soul. She can now shout, "Hallelujah"

Love

I would like to sincerely express my heart felt condolences to the Black Family. I was one of her members in Little Rock and I can truly say that she was the greatest First Lady I've ever met or had. We learned a lot from her and know that there is not another First Lady in the world like the Angel that God came and took home. I know it's not easy to deal with this pain Pastor Black and those beautiful children, but just know that she is in excellent hands. Be strong and take care of one another. She would want you all to take care of each other as she took care of all of you. We love you all and please be strong.

Love,
Shelia, Richard, Tehzra and Kiono

Words can not express how my heart feels right now...Mrs. Black was truly one of God's Angels. Beulah was my first church home since I have been saved and I remember how strong our First lady was and how anointed she was. God definitely knew what he was doing when he created Glenda Black. I send out mighty prayers to the Black family. I really wished I could have made the funeral and to just be with the church family, but I am in another state. God knows what he is doing and during this time, we must remember that he promises to never put more on us than we can bare. God knew that it was Glenda Black's time and that our church family is so encouraging and strong, that we would come together as the strong family that we are and pray stronger and of course be there for Pastor Black. I Thank God for Sister Black and her wonderful spirit and I am so glad I had to opportunity to meet a strong, black, woman of God like her. May her soul rest in peace until we meet again up in Heaven.

Love Always, Chante and Aaron

To Pastor Black and Family, I would like to share a poem that I wrote for First Lady Glenda J. Black. God put it in my heart and spirit to express how she was welcomed home. Although she will be missed dearly, she will never be forgotten: The poem is titled Celebration Day because this was her homegoing Celebration and the Lord was glad to Welcome her in.

Celebration Day

Don't weep for me at the grave for I am not there,
I’ve a date with my saviour up in the air
When God called my name on that 3rd July day
I put on my long white gown and we danced to heaven every step of the way
The golden gates slowly swung open and the bright lights quickly went dim
As the Lord himself took me by the arm and gently escorted me in
The angels all cried holy and welcomed me with a serenade of Praise as trumpet's sounded in harmony and harp's softly played
The Lord walked me down the streets that are paved with gold as he shared my life’s story, he commended me for a job well done and then crowned my head with glory
The saints in heaven welcomed me with love on my homecoming day as your hearts grieved my loss on my joyous celebration day
I wanted to bring you with me but we must go alone
For you will have your day, to meet the Saviour that sits on the throne
Thank you for your presence, and loving kindness that you’ve showed
The love that you gave to me means more that one can ever know
Don’t weep for me at my grave for I am not there,
I’ve ascended with the master in Heaven up in the air!

Dear Pastor Black and Family,

May God continue to provide you, the children, and the rest of the family comfort during this time of bereavement. Sis. Black was such a special jewel and an inspiration to me and my family. We treasured the years that she was our "First Lady" at the Greater Paradise Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was more than a First Lady, she was a friend.

We will continue to keep you in our prayers.

Love,

From Sorrow to Remembrance

To Rev. J. Black and the blessed Beulah Family

Sis. Glenda Black's faith was an inspiration, her wisdom a guide and her love for others indescribable. Yo are celebrating the blessings of a special woman. It was a joy to meet this remarkble lady on arrival at the airport a few years ago. She gleamed with the beauty of an angel and her attire was sacred white. Her magnificent demeanor as a woman of God exemplified the spirit of a chosen vessel. Escorted by her son she walked with grace & favor. She left her ailing earthly anchor to show love and concern. On departure she whispered "you are special" embraced and smiled.
Later she communciated "Thanks for caring for us while we were in Houston; your kindness was greatly appreciated." This communication will always be a dear keep sake.

In knowing that a beautiful picture has returned to its original image is just confirmation of TRUTH. He too, loves beautiful flowers. Now let's celebrate and give thanks to God for the stewardship He gave you over His child. And, because you know too much about Him remain steadfast.
