Glenn Raines was born February 5, 1947 to Owen Howell Raines and Flora Marie Raines. He grew-up in Bush Hills in the western section of Birmingham. In 1960, they moved to the Rocky Ridge area where he resided until his enlistment in the United States Air Force. Glenn joined the United States Air Force on June 10, 1966 where he served four years on active duty as a Bomb/Navigation and Flight Simulator Tactics Specialist, obtaining the rank of Sargent. Upon completion of his Reserve obligation in June of 1972, Glenn joined his father in the family business at Raines Brothers Store Fixtures where he worked his way to a managerial position. In 1974, Glenn earned his General class Amateur Radio license. Through the years, Glenn was active with many Emergency Response groups assisting with providing an invaluable communications link during times of disaster. In 2011 he joined a small group of amateur operators to begin the Central Alabama Emergency Radio Network. In September of this year, he was joined on the air by his oldest son and in November by one of his grandsons. Glenn passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 29th in the early hours of the morning. He is preceded by his father Owen, mother Marie and sister Dian Roy. Glenn leaves behind his younger brother Dr. Raymond Raines (Debbie) of St. Petersburg Fl., daughter Tammy Delaney her three children and two grandchildren, son Mr. Samuel Raines (Amy) and their two children, son Mr. Steven Raines and his son, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends. The family would like to thank everyone for helping us celebrate the life of our beloved father, brother and friend. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association, The Race de Cure to benefit the American Diabetes Association or Rock Creek Church of God.

Glenn Raines called me his friend. It was my honor to be such. I would not change these past 5 years that I have been involved with Glenn. I admire a lot of things about Glenn and learned a few from him. I have no other words than I am saddened greatly by this loss.
