Glory Shadwick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 23, 2025.
Glory J. Shadwick (née Archer), age 84, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, in Granite City, Illinois. Born on September 29, 1940, in Collinsville, Illinois, she lived a life defined by devotion to her family and unwavering support for those around her.

Glory was the daughter of Carl and Sadie Archer and grew up surrounded by a close-knit family. She shared her early years with her siblings Harry "Bernie" Archer, Gary Archer, and LaDonna Bloomquist. Throughout her life, Glory remained deeply connected to her roots and values.

On September 24, 1960, Glory married the love of her life, Ray Shadwick. Their marriage spanned 56 years and was filled with love, partnership, and adventure. Together they built a home centered on faith and family. They welcomed their son Michael Shadwick on December 27, 1964. Glory and Ray shared many memorable travels during their time together, including trips to Germany and Mexico-experiences that enriched their lives and deepened their bond.

Glory's heart belonged to her family. Her life revolved around them-especially her grandchildren-and she took immense pride in each of them. She was a constant presence in times of need: dependable, compassionate, and always ready to lend a hand or offer comfort.

She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Michelle (Mike) Northcutt, Katlin Shadwick, Jessica (Tony) Sulentic, and David (Jeanna) Radford; as well as her great-grandchildren: Dustin, Kali, Michael, Mason, Liam, Landon, Zander, Kingston, and Gracie. Each of them carries forward the legacy of love and strength that Glory so generously shared.

Glory was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ray Shadwick; her son Michael Shadwick; her parents Carl and Sadie Archer; brothers Harry "Bernie" Archer and Gary Archer; and sister LaDonna Bloomquist.

A woman of faith throughout her life, Glory attended Eden United Church of Christ in Edwardsville, Illinois. Her spiritual community provided comfort and connection over the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 10, 2025 at 11:00am at Eden United Church of Christ located at 903 N. Second St., Edwardsville, IL 62025. Following the service, Glory will be laid to rest beside her husband at Valley View Cemetery. The family has requested that only immediate family attend the burial to allow them their time to say farewell.

Glory's steadfast presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her most.

Memorials may be made to the family.
