Gordon Potis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 10, 2008.
Gordon "Smokey" Potis, 60, of Boulder, died Thursday, January 3. Mr. Potis was born and raised in Belleville, New Jersey. He has resided in Colorado for over 30 years.

Smokey was loved and well-known in the music business because of his employment with Bill Graham Productions. He was known for his kindness, intelligence, creativity and sense of humor. "Everyone digs Smokey."

He also traveled with and helped produce the Lollapalooza music festival tours, the Grateful Dead tours, as well as the tours of many national and international acts. Smokey worked many great shows at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver. In his youth, he played the guitar and fronted his own band that played at the World's Fair in New York City and other venues. He loved all music, including the music of Carlos Santana and Neil Young. Smokey also enjoyed the entertainment of The Jim Rose Circus.

The thought shared by many is that, "The World Is A Little Bit Better Place Because Smokey Lived With Us."

Smokey will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends in Colorado and throughout the United States. Friends who wish to share their stories, memories or photographs of Smokey, with his family, can write to: [email protected]

In lieu of flowers, family and friends are urged to make donations in his memory to an organization inspired by Smokey's late grandson at BabyFrankie.com and to the fine people at Bouldershelter.org ; care of Minister Chris Byrne.

There will be a Memorial Service on Friday, January 11, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Center Chapel, 2312 14th Street, Boulder.

Until we meet again, "Love You Brother", "Cheers"

Gordon was the quintessential teenager with the black leather jacket, greased back hair and big nose. Back in Belleville NJ on Linden Ave where Gordon lived, he was the lead singer for George Cerfice trio and then lead singer for the Laurie’s “I Do Believe”. He had a better voice than Dion and even Sinatra. Iris loved hearing him sing as she gave off an eggy ora. Ken couldn’t believe Gordon’s voice, every time Gordon would sing, Ken would dance out the door. Gordon, you will be missed especially by Beverly.

I'm Gordon's brother. Some time ago, this statement was shared with me. "Someone once gave me box of darkness...in time I learned that this too was a gift." I believe that yes it is dark because we have lost Gordon...but because he is now in God's hands he recieved a gift of a new life. I love you brother.
