Grace L. Matula 93, of Damon, passed away May 9, 2011. She was born April 28, 1918 to Frank and Francis Shefcik Hurta in Needville. She was a stay at home mom who raised four children and kept books for her husband who was a water well driller and farmer. She was a deeply religious person who attended St. Paul's Presbyterian Church every Sunday until her health declined. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Matula and her parents, Frank and Francis Hurta. She is survived by four children, Gene R. Matula of West Columbia, Roy L. Matula and wife, Elaine, of West Columbia, Gary M. Matula and wife, Judy, of Angleton and Peggy A. Snelgrove and husband, Vernon, of Damon; ten grandchildren, David Matula and wife, Lisa, of Brazoria, Dana Wachtel and husband, Allen, of Brazoria, Lee Matula and wife, Stacey, of Beaumont, Vanessa Hill and husband, Jason, of Damon, Kellie Hedlund and husband, Chris, of Houston, Kaysie Morrison and husband, Jason, of Dayton, Ohio, Craig Matula of Austin, Dawn Locke and husband, Mark, of West Columbia, Pamela Stewart and husband, Lee, of West Columbia, Clint Hudgeons and wife, Debbie, of Sugar Land; and ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Sadie Goeppinger and Evelyn Griffin; and one brother, Lee Roy Hurta; and other loving relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be David Matula, Lee Matula, Allen Wachtel, Clint Hudgeons, Jason Hill, Mark Locke and Lee Stewart. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Needville, Burial will follow in Damon Public Cemetery in Damon. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. Words of condolence may be left for the Matula family at www.davisgreenlawnfh.com.
