Grant Clough Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 5, 2016.
ASHLAND - Grant Wallace Clough passed away on March 31, 2016, after a brief illness. He was born in Ashland, on Nov. 17, 1924, the son of Roy Leslie (Levi) Clough, Sr., and Jessica Littlefield (Glynn) Clough.

He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Roy L. Clough, Jr.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Clough of Exeter, and his children, Susan Gettens of Concord, Elaine Halsey and her husband, William, of Gilford, and Christopher Clough and his wife, Kelly, of Milton.

Grant leaves six grandchildren and one great grandchild: Angela Halsey; Hope (Clough) Rowe and her husband, Clint, and son, Lucas; Melody, Joel, Kayla, and Jessica Clough. He also leaves two dear nieces, Karen (Clough) Lowery of Wayland, Mass., and Paula Clough of Livingston, Mont.

Grant was raised to love his country and defended it in World War II and the Korean Conflict. His service was decorated with three Bronze Star medals, the Presidential Citation, the Unit Citation, Battle Stars, and more.

Upon release from active duty, Grant earned his Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Studies and a Bachelor of Theology, entering full-time service for his Lord. Becoming increasingly involved with people suffering from substance addiction, he further earned a Master of Science degree and Doctor of Philosophy in various therapies and counseling techniques. He wrote two books based on his Theory of Positivity and a collection of poems, "Personal Praises."

For more than 25 years, he helped addicted persons find new lives and presented the Lord to them as a means of "strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow." In 1993 Grant moved to Florida, where he again helped those with addictions, and fell in love with the people of Beacon Baptist Church, where he filled the pulpit in what he considered a "last Hurrah" from his dear Lord.

Through the years, Grant was a sidewalk, radio, and pulpit preacher. Describing himself simply as "a Christian," Grant opened the Word of God with many beloved in New Hampshire, Florida, and beyond, always longing for others to know the "joy unspeakable" of the love God has for them in Christ.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. A graveside service with military honors will be announced at www.brewittfuneralhome.com
