Gregoire Guiot Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 29, 2024.
Louisville - Gregoire Guiot (Greg), age 60, passed away on October 1, 2024, at Baptist Health Louisville, following an unexpected complication from ongoing health issues. Born on November 4, 1963, in Martigny-Les-Bains, France, Gregoire was the epitome of the American Dream, transforming his passion for culinary arts into a successful catering company, Mirabelle Gourmet Catering.

A proud veteran, Gregoire served two years in the French army before embarking on a remarkable culinary journey. He began his apprenticeship at age 14, learning under world-class pastry chefs in Auxerre and Paris. His talent flourished in the United States, where he refined his skills in Chicago, at the Acajou restaurant in Lexington, and in Louisville at renowned establishments such as The Brown Hotel, The Parisian Pantry, and the Jefferson Club. For many years, he served as executive chef at Jewish Hospital, where he created upscale cuisine for the Trager Pavilion and mentored countless aspiring chefs.

He remained vibrant and full of life, even in the midst of serious illness, never passing up an opportunity to bring a smile to a stranger's face. Affectionately known to many as Chef Greg, he exuded charisma and charm, with a thick French accent and mustache to match. His good humor and generous spirit made a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Gregoire was an avid WWII militaria collector and history buff, sharing his passion for the past with others. He was a devoted father and animal lover, known for his kindness and compassion. He loved spending time with his son fishing and at the barn with his daughter and her horses. He generously volunteered his time at St. Joseph Children's Home, teaching children how to make traditional French cakes around the holidays, fostering joy and creativity in their lives.

Gregoire is preceded in death by his mother, Muguette Guiot. He was an extremely dedicated son, providing and caring for his mother even though she was an ocean away.

Gregoire is survived by his daughter, Magdalene Muguette Guiot; son, Jonathan Marcel Guiot; their mother, Leslie Guiot; and his father, Marcel Guiot, who resides in France. He leaves behind countless close friends and coworkers he considered family, as well as many beloved grand dogs and grand horses.

Gregoire's legacy will live on through the numerous lives he touched, the stories he shared, and the beauty he created in both his culinary artistry and his relationships. He will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Gregoire's life and his contributions to the culinary world will be held at the Kentucky Derby Museum on Thursday December 5th at 5:30. To help the family plan for this special gathering, please RSVP to [email protected] by November 27th, if at all possible.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that instead donations be made to St. Joseph Children's Home or The Kentucky Humane Society.

What a wonderful memorial last night at the Derby Museum. I was captured by all the photos of his life, family and friends. His reenactment photos should have landed him in Hollywood. Thanks Greg for knowing you. Mark Stowers

I met Greg in the parking garage elevator at Jewish Hospital one morning on my way in to work. He had a way of turning a complete stranger into a friend.

Greg was a special friend who I first met at Jewish Hospital where he did amazing work for corporate management at the conference center. I loved his re-enactments as he helped translate the WWI French medal my grandfather received as a Marine wounded in the battle at Verdun. A very special man! Mark and Sharon Stowers
