Gregory Tammaro passed away on Tuesday August 11, 2020 after a long battle with the disease of addiction. Many people would say that he died "unexpectedly", but the truth is, it wasn't "unexpected". It was a gnawing fear that his family faced everyday while he battled his disease. Born in Framingham on March 15, 1990, he was the loving son of J. Arthur Tammaro and Susan (Pettipas) Tammaro. Greg was raised in Groton and attended Groton schools, graduating from Groton-Dunstable High School in 2008. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister Lynn Tammaro and his grandmother, Barbara Casarano. He is predeceased by his grandfather Charles Casarano and grandparents Henry "Bill" and Loyola Pettipas. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Greg was so much more than the labels society would put on him. He was a loving son and brother. He was charismatic and charming. Anyone that had the privilege to know him, could see that. He loved fiercely and deeply and had such a special bond with his parents. As a boy, Greg was an adventurer. He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed biking, riding his scooter and skateboarding. He especially loved time spent on family bike rides. He loved music and found comfort in listening to it. Those special memories are what will be held so dear. Substance Use Disorder did not define Greg. He had hopes and dreams that the disease prevented from coming to fruition. He was brave and strong. No family should ever have to endure the indignity of dealing with a loved one's substance use disorder. Unless you live with it, you will never see the pain and shame that comes with it. But likewise, you will never understand the warrior strength it takes for someone to face that pain every day and still make the choice to try again and again. Greg's perseverance was a testimony to his character. God put many people in Greg's path that offered assistance, kindness and selflessness. His family will be forever grateful for those that walk among us that help the suffering each day, without judgement. Greg's battle was hard fought. He never gave up hope, nor did his family. His battle has ended and he is now at peace. His family will forever miss him. Dear Mr. & Mrs. Tammaro. I did not know your son and have never met you. I was looking for someone else's obituary and noticed your son's. What an honest and heart wrenching tribute. Knowing people with addictions I can only say I am sorry. I will keep you in my prayers.

What a lovely tribute to your son. Though we are strangers to each other, we share a bond of loss of an amazing son who struggled valiantly against the power of addiction. My heart breaks for your loss. The Journey of your grief will be forever, but I hope it helps somehow for you to know that you are not alone on this Journey. A place to reflect online is A Bed for my Heart. Lots of support and specific articles on loss through addiction. There are so many of us. Please know you are supported by so many who walk with you everyday. My son has been gone 6 long years. His name is Sam. Saying prayers for you and your loved ones.

Greg helped me very much. When I made the decision to get help, Greg spent countless hours teaching me what I needed to do and helped me through the AA program. I am forever greatful for him. I always tell everyone that God sent 2 angels into my life. Greg and The Reverend Ford, I couldn't have done it without either one. I watched him help so many people like myself. I know that Greg has peace now and my heart breaks for his family. RIP Greg.

Greg will always remain in my heart and a part of my spirit. Nirvana Aerosmith CHEVELLE took, years together, years separated but we always clicked back where we left off. Miss you bud, but I will see you again. I'm so sorry you never got to hang with river. My heart is beating slowly, while I wring out the tears. I love you Gregory. Always have always will. I feel you with me. Also I relate to greg as a sister in recovery, a significant other, a family friend, and an empath. I know his pain came from deep within and I know myself battling yourself Is the hardest thing you can do
