Greta Thomas Caldwell

Caldwell Greta Thomas Caldwell, age 79, of Columbus, passed away, Sunday, June 18, 2017. Greta was born and raised in Gallipolis, Ohio, daughter of the late T. A. and Mildred Thomas. Also preceded in death by her brother Keith Thomas. Greta graduated from Gallia Academy High School and went on to graduate from Ohio Wesleyan University, Class of 1959, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. On August 28, 1960, Greta married her best friend and soul mate, Richard Caldwell, and the two of them went on to create a beautiful family together while sharing a marriage of 56 years. Throughout Greta's life, she always maintained a love of sports and competition. She played in an Ohio State University Ladies Golf League, competitive women's tennis with her friends at Swim and Racquet and The Racquet Club of Columbus, and was a constant supporter of all her children's and grandchildren's sporting events throughout the years. She was a member of First Community Church and Guild #7. Greta was loyal and compassionate woman who was very social, and devoted to her friends and family. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Dr. Richard Caldwell; daughter and son-in-law, Gwynn and Peter Behrent and their children, Katie, Sarah, and Christy; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Leslie Caldwell and their children, Walker, Griffin, and E.J.; son and daughter-in-law, David and Nicole Caldwell and their children, Hannah and Quinn; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2017. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017 at Mound Hill Cemetery, Gallipolis, Ohio.
