Gust KOLIAS Obituary
May 19, 1925 – February 16, 2013
On Saturday, February 16, 2013, Gust gracefully passed away surrounded by his family at his home. He has now journeyed Home to be with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and all of his predeceased family and friends. Gust will continue to live in the hearts of his most loving, caring and beautiful wife, Nina; his daughters, Angela (Kenneth Titcomb), and Margaret (Terry Markle), and his two sons, Sam (Melissa) and Van (Clair Barnes-Morrison); he will also be missed by his grandchildren, Sheika (Kris Ellestad), Samantha, Hugh, Kosta, Vanessa, Isabella, Terence, Ari, Orin, Christina (Jesse Macleod and great grandchild, Logan), Justin, Dana, Jonathan, and Rachel. Upon his arrival in Calgary from Kastri, Greece in 1953, he started Kolias Masonry with his brother, Nick, and enjoyed volunteering at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and community; starting with the bricklaying and construction of the church and remaining a lifelong supporter within the Calgary Greek Community. Gust and Nina were the first couple to get married in the church. In the late 60's he founded Panarcadia Investment Co. Ltd. and was a landlord until his retirement in 1983. He was honoured to be asked by the Calgary City Mayor Rod Sykes to serve on the Calgary Building Appeal Board. Gust inspired and mentored his two sons, who together founded Boardwalk Rental Communities, and was always so proud to be part of the entire Boardwalk family. He will remain the honorary founder. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 1 Tamarac Crescent S.W. in Calgary, Alberta. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the same location, with Interment to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery Mausoleum. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Richie Sinha, Dr. Yasin Houdi, Nurses Greg Liew, Lisette Portelance, and their entire staff for their loving care. Gust was always surrounded by his angel palliative caregivers, Racquel Tejada and Rachel Morrison during his final days. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alberta Cancer Foundation - Tom Baker Cancer Centre (1331 29 Street N.W. Calgary, AB T2N 4N2). I was truly upset to hear of the passing of your father ,husband, grandfather.
I have often thought of Gust even though our paths did not cross on a very frequent basis. Each and every time this happened a smile would appear on my face.
He was truly what one would refer to as a gentlemans genleman. He was sincere, warm and his word was his bond. What an example he has set for his family to follow.
