Hal L. Berry was born on June 19th, 1939 in Dayton, Ohio. Jesus called him home peacefully on January 29th, 2024. Hal moved his family to
Sebring, Florida in 1987 when he accepted a management position at Lesco which was located at Sebring Industrial Park near Sebring International Raceway. Hal worked there for over a decade before retiring and spending much of his free time with his kids and grandkids while also serving as a Deacon at his home Church, Bible Fellowship.
Hal was a lover of antique cars and enjoyed driving his kids and grandkids around in his 1966 Chrysler Newport convertible. He enjoyed sports that included baseball, basketball, bowling, cycling and swimming. He loved taking his sons to sporting events, spring training games, baseball card shows, and never missed his son's games or practices. He was a talker and nobody he met was a stranger. He loved striking up a conversation with just about anyone, and often times it was about Baseball and the Cincinnati Redlegs! Hal knew his favorite players and stats! Hal would often join in basketball games with his sons and their friends in their driveway, and simply loved being outside. He loved sweets and couldn't get enough of the dark chocolates at his favorite store in Dayton..Esther Price! Each Christmas they were a staple during family gatherings as a shipment would arrive from his family in Ohio.
During his professional career, Hal was hired by several companies, all of which he held management positions. These included Micro Devices in Dayton, Regal Boats in
Orlando, Florida and eventually a position at Lesco where he, his wife Bobby of nearly 55 years, and his three sons settled in and called Sebring their home. Hal worked hard to provide for all of his family and often had side jobs and businesses so he and his wife Bobby could provide their sons with a private, Christian education. Together they worked hard and sacrificed much to help their kids and grandkids. He took pride in his hard work and determination which began as a young boy delivering news papers on his bicycle each morning.
Hal was a family man. Married and loyal to
his wife Bobby and mother of their three sons. He was always asking and available to take his grandkids to and from school, sporting events, breakfast and lunch. One thing he really looked forward to was breakfast at the Sebring Diner with his granddaughter Madisyn and visiting his other 7 grandchildren in
Cape Coral, Fl. Hal was recently blessed with two more grandchildren that also live in Sebring, Noah and Silas Berry. Hal loved stopping by and spending time with them these last few years as well as the other 8 of his grandchildren every chance he could get. Hal was a reliable husband, father, grandfather, friend and volunteer. Two of his favorite things to say was "it's all about family" and "thank you Jesus"!
Hal is survived by his wife Bobby, their three sons and their families: Shane, Chad and Ryan. Hal was blessed to be called grandpa (or papaw) to Cody, Kyle, Kahla and Caitlyn Berry, children of Shane and Len of
Cape Coral, Fl. Madisyn Berry, daughter of Chad and Camie Guist, from
LaBelle, Fl. Noah and Silas Berry, children of Chad and Crystle. Also, Ryan Mitchell, Chariti and Leah Berry, children of Ryan Berry and Tamara Davis (Berry) of Sebring and
Sterling, Oklahoma. Hal has extended family in Ohio that he loves very much, Kevin and Wanda Blackford and their children as well as grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother in law, Ronald Gladson of
Sebring, Florida as well as many in-laws from his wife Bobby's side of the family.
There will be a private and small celebration of life for Hal and his immediate family. In lieu of cards and/or flowers, and in the memory of Hal, the family requests donations in his name be offered to the Champion for Children Foundation in
Sebring, Fl. A local non-profit organization in Hal's home town and one that was instrumental in helping one of his grandchildren at 6 months old.
Hal loved and was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Thank you Jesus for his life and presence here for nearly 85 years. Enjoy your time with Jesus dad and we will all see you soon.
