Hamid Rashid Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 24, 2025.
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Hamid Rashid (Fahmi), 46, of Ajax, Ontario, Canada. Hamid passed from a sudden medical event while on family vacation in Curacao. His final moments were spent surrounded by the family he loved and the beauty of the Caribbean Sea.

Hamid was born in (Dhaka) Bangladesh to Haroon and Daisy Rashid. He spent his childhood and adolescent years in Kuwait with his father, mother, and sister Farzana - with whom he shared a close bond.

He completed an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at Purdue University, followed by an MBA degree at Duke University. He then spent many years working in the United States, making lifelong friends. Having moved to Toronto, Hamid then met Sarah Burdeniuk and they married in 2013. They built a beautiful life together in Ajax with their two cherished children, Kamran (10) and Kamila (8), and their rescue dog, Lola.

Hamid was a devoted husband to Sarah, his partner in love, life, and adventure. As a husband, he was supportive, committed, and endlessly generous with his time and heart. Sarah and Hamid were passionate about international development and travelling the world, learning about diverse cultures. They shared an appreciation for different cultures and sought to foster this in their children through travels to places like Seychelles, Colombia, Cuba, Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Turkey.

Hamid was a hands-on father who loved openly and abundantly, making sure that Kamran and Kamila knew every day how much they were loved and how proud he was of their accomplishments. He enthusiastically encouraged their dreams and passions, whether Kamran's culinary pursuits or Kamila's creative projects. He embraced fatherhood with joy, tenderness, and selflessness. Hamid had a natural curiosity for life and a love of learning which he instilled in his children.

Hamid was a devoted son to Haroon and Daisy. He possessed a quiet strength, and was the pillar of the family. He always put the needs of others above himself and ensured that his parents were cared for. He was the proud older brother to his sister Farzana (Tanmi), whom he adored. He cherished the time he spent with Farzana, her husband Adeeb (Jeet) Sajjad, and his precious niece, Myra.

Hamid will be dearly missed by his mother-in-law, Sue Burdeniuk, father-in-law, Randy Burdeniuk, sister-in-law, Andrea Nieforth, brother-in-law, Stephen Nieforth, brother-in-law, Craig Burdeniuk, sister-in-law, Tshepi Reetsang, and his cherished nephews, Liam and Nicholas. They will hold in their hearts his warm spirit, easy smile, kind words and infinite capacity for generosity and love.

Hamid will be forever remembered by the many dear cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, nieces, nephews, and coworkers he met over the course of his rich life in many corners of the world.

Hamid's spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched. He never missed an opportunity to make a new friend, having a special gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued.

He was, and will always be, deeply loved and missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Médecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) or BRAC (international development organization in Bangladesh).

Hamid was brilliant. I remember sitting next to him at Purdue taking our first circuits class in EE. I leaned how to take notes properly and study from Hamid. Lost touch with him soon after undergrad.

Will keep Hamid and his family in our prayers inshallah. A great guy mashallah.

We were in Madinah, performing Umrah and I could barely grasp the text sent by my Brother-in-law saying "Hameed/Fahmi" passed away. It was so heartbreaking and shocking.
Allah has destined, written our fate; we can only pray for Fahmi. We prayed for him after hearing this news in Madinah. My husband, Suman, my brother-in-law (Sujan), my sister-in-law (Parvin Apa); they knew him well from University days and they are all deeply saddened and touched by this sad news.

"Fahmi" is how I know him; he is one of the well-known, friendly faces from my childhood days in Kuwait. He was very cute as a child and then grew up to a handsome young man. I always remember him as a gentle, kind, shy smiling person. The most remarkable memory is that he was among the very few people who attended our reception in Texas and gave us a wonderful gift, which I still have it in my showcase! No one knew that this would become a memory so soon!
I saw Tanmi as a baby and again after many years I met her briefly in U.S.A. when she was all grown up. I realized that she too has the same, kind, shy smile like her brother.
I am feeling extremely sad for Harun Uncle, Aunty and Tanmi. May Allah give them strength and patience to go through this difficult time.
My heartfelt condolences to his wonderful wife and adorable children. May Allah have mercy and make things easy for them in the coming days.
May Allah forgive Fahmi and grant him the highest place in Jannah.
Fahmi will always be remembered dearly in our family. Suman will always miss him deeply.
He was also my younger brother´s (Biju/Shamsuzzaman) good friend. My brothers also grieved hearing this sad news.
It truly hurts to know that there will be no looking forward to meeting again in this life!
"Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un"..... "Indeed, to Allah we belong, and indeed to Him we shall return".

Hamid was a gentle, easy-going person, calming and reassuring presence. I remember our conversations about parenting and how he worried about giving the best and most nurturing experiences to his kids.

I pray for comfort for his friends and family. Rest in peace, Hamid

I am writing this with the heaviest heart and the deepest sympathies to Hamid´s nearest and dearest. I knew Hamid professionally, working as his team member at RBC for a handful of years. He struck me as such a genuine person, wholesome and caring, with a true interest in those he connected with. I´m certain this is the person he was, regardless of the environment, which is a monumental loss. Through his quiet sense of humour and natural attentiveness, he always had me feeling part of the team, our work "Dad". Again, my heart goes out to his family, wishing you comfort, strength, and peace during this difficult time. May his memory be a blessing, and may you feel the love he left behind.

Dear Hamid, I have never met you in person and now you're already gone. You were such a friendly and welcoming presence at Buoyancy and made everyone at the team feel welcome and appreciated and it was so great to help building something together.
Life is too short. We will miss you.
Dear Hamid's family, this must be a loss that can't be described in words. I wish you strength throughout this time of grief.

My deepest condolences to Sarah, Kamran, Kamila, Aunty, Uncle and Tanmi, my best friend who was undoubtedly the 'apple of his eye.'

I first met Bhaiyah at a dawat over a decade ago, when he exclaimed that I looked just like his sister, a compliment I happily accepted. As I got closer to Tanmi, he was a regular fixture and never failed to treat his sister's friends as a part of the family. He always had a kind word, the brightest smile and an unwavering ability to make anyone feel like they belonged.

It was unbearably painful to hear that he had passed. I pray that his family, one that has given me so much unconditional love, has the strength to persevere through this unimaginable loss. His kindness, comforting words and impactful presence will be deeply missed.

Thank you for giving us a template for being an incredible human, which I will forever try to emulate. I am eternally grateful to have been able to call you Bhaiyah.

Rest in peace

With love and prayers,

You are in our prayers..

In the garden of memories, your spirit blooms,
A gentle soul, lighting even the darkest rooms.
At just forty-six, you danced through our days,
With laughter and love in a million ways.

Oh, my sweet brother, your laughter echoes still,
In the whispers of wind, in the quiet, you fill.
May Allah cradle you in Jannah´s embrace,
Where love knows no bounds, and time leaves no trace.

Though tears may fall, and our hearts feel the ache,
Your spirit remains, in each step that we take.
Forever you'll shine, in our cherished memories,
In the love that you shared, you´ve set our hearts free.

We love you, dear brother, our guiding light,
In the tapestry of life, you made everything bright.
Though you´ve left this world, in our hearts you reside,
In the love that you gave, you´ll forever abide.

From your Loved ones in Houston.

Inna Lilahi wainna Ilahi raje'un. Thank you for writing such a beautiful obituary for Al Hamddu! I was at Medinah performing Umrah when Mukti gave me the devastating news of Hamid's demises. I am still unable to phantom that Hamid is no more. A bright start left too soo. I met Hamid while attending Purdue University. Hamid was calm, quiet, soft spoken, caring, and very witty. His sense of humor was on a different level. He was tech savvy and was always trying out new softwares. He wrote a little code for MS-DOS before Windows came to futile in order to use a mouse. Back then it was keyboard based only with DOS system.
As one can imagine, we had gone through many sleepless nights completing homeworks, prepping for exams as well as sharing foods and cracking jokes along the way. We spent many nights in MSEE building along with Kamal bhai. He thrived academically to eventually land a job at SLB when job market started to go down. I had the privilege of staying with him in Houston for couple of weeks where we created many memories down the westheimer street. He was well organized, clothes were neatly paired up and the apartment was always spotless. He was well liked and always surrounded with friends from multi-nationalities. Last time I physically met him right before his departure for Canada when he stopped by to say his good byes. Never knew that would be the last time to see him!
To uncle and auntie - thank you for letting us get to know your beautiful son. He was very humble and obedient and very affectionate to Tanmi. I prayed hard for your son in Madinah and continue to do so. May Allah place him in highest place in Jannatul Ferdous.
To Mrs. Burdeniuk, Kamran and Kamila- Thank you for giving Hamid a beautiful family he so deserved. We have been trading family pictures lately and came to know about Kamran's culinary interests. He may not be there physically but his spirit will always look after you. Keep on going in pursuit of your dreams. If you ever need to reach out for anything please drop an email at [email protected].

What a beautiful obituary. This captured him well. I met Hamid through work. Although I am in Calgary, I had the opportunity to meet with him during trips to Toronto or when he came out west to visit our centre. He came to one of our galas with a 1970´ s theme and came in full Afro- typo wig, round shades and peace-style beads ...very memorable. He was such a good sport .

From the very first time I met him I knew he was a very special man indeed. His heart was full of compassion which was very clear from the beginning. He was always the first one to pick up the phone to see how you were or to congratulate you on an accomplishment. He was so sensitive to others feelings and his kind words were always so much appreciated.

To Hamids´ parents, thank you for sharing your son with us all. To Sarah, Samran and Kamila, my heart goes out to you all. You are all so truly blessed to have Hamid in your lives daily. I know you will all be watched over by this new angel.

It was an honour and my privilege to have been able to have such a wonderful peer. He will missed greatly. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Rest well my friend.

I met Hamid at Purdue while interviewing new SLB candidates, alongside a wonderful group of young and talented individuals. He truly amazed and inspired me with his energy, his infectious smile, and his humble, genuine demeanor.

We flew several candidates to Houston, and they all received job offers. I´m happy to see that many of them have stayed close, through both good times and bad. SLB was a family for many of us.

Though we never met again after that, I will always remember Hamid´s cheerful spirit, his smile, and his kindness.

My deepest condolences to Sarah, Kamran, Kamila and Hamid's parents. I first met Hamid when we worked together at SLB in Houston. He was amazing at his work and always had a quick smile. I remember meeting his mother when she visited him in Houston and saw first hand his love and devotion to his family. Even though our paths had not crossed in the last 20 years, I will always remember his cheerful demeanor and his love for family and friends.

We parents of Sarah Jabeen ( a very good friend of Hamid , whom my kids lovingly call Nemo) share our sadness but accept the will of Almighty Allah . Allah the Almighty called His servant " O My reassured soul , Return to your Lord, well pleased and pleasing ( to Him)and enter among my ( righteous) servants
and enter My Paradise ( 89:27-30).

In life, there are friends, and then there are angels in the form of friends, people whose presence brings light during the darkest times. Hamid was one of those rare souls. After the loss of my father, a time when the world felt heavy and uncertain, Hamid stood by me not out of obligation, but out of a deep, genuine kindness that defined who he was.

He checked on me when silence might have been easier. He listened when I had no words. He consistently sent condolences every year since 2016, quietly, and with a heart full of compassion. In those small acts, he gave me strength. In his concern, he reminded me that even in grief, I was not alone. Despite that I move to a different continent, he still continued to check in on me up until 3 weeks before his departure!

Hamid had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for. He didn´t need to speak loudly or make grand gestures, his steady presence spoke volumes. He was a friend in the truest sense, and his kindness left a lasting imprint on my life.

Though he may no longer be with us in the way we wish, Hamid´s spirit lives on in every kind word, every selfless act, and every heart he touched. I will forever be grateful for his friendship, and I will carry his memory with deep respect and affection.

Rest well, dear Hamid. Thank you for being a light when I needed it most.
