Harold Boyer Jr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2025.
Harold R. Boyer Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on October 25, 2023, after a long illness. He was 76 years old. Harold died peacefully at Tidwell Hospice in Port Charlotte, Florida.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Jean (Anderson) Boyer; his daughters, Amy Subramanian and Christina Boothroyd; his sons-in-law, Anand Subramanian and Brian Boothroyd; his grandchildren, Sean Boothroyd, Evan Boothroyd, Rohan Subramanian, and Nikita Subramanian; and his brother, Robert Boyer, and Robert's partner, Gayle Purzycki. He is also lovingly remembered by his aunts, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Harold was born on September 3, 1947, in Maryland, to Helen Marie Smith and Harold Radcliffe Boyer. He grew up in Delaware, where he was a standout student and athlete, captain of his high school football team, and a member of the wrestling team. After high school, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving honorably as a Medic with the Marines in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. Upon returning home, he was stationed in Maryland, where he met and fell in love with his future wife, Jean.

Following his four years of Navy service, Harold earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and rejoined the military as a U.S. Air Force Officer. He began his Air Force career in emergency medicine, later becoming an Infection Prevention Control Officer, a specialty he would carry throughout the remainder of his military service. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued his calling by working in civilian hospitals, always with a focus on compassionate care.

Harold was known for his profound kindness, steadfast dedication, and quiet strength that reassured everyone around him. He had an enduring passion for nature and science and was admired for his encyclopedic knowledge of wildlife. He loved sharing animal facts with his grandchildren and tinkering in the yard, always finding satisfaction in the small joys of outdoor life. Harold found wonder in the natural world and inspired others to do the same.

A memorial service will be held on July 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, New Hampshire. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate Harold's life and service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Harold's memory. He is deeply missed and forever remembered.
