Harold CAMPBELL Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Apr. 15 to Apr. 19, 2017.
CAMPBELL, Harold "Keith"
November 18, 1920 - March 29, 2017
Harold "Keith" Campbell, 96, of Quesnel, British Columbia, passed away in his sleep early in the morning of Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Dunrovin Park Lodge while next to his wife Enid.
Keith was born November 18, 1920 to Harold Baldwin "Murphy" Campbell and Florence Emily Campbell née Nahu in New Westminster, BC. On June 27, 1947 he married Vivienne "Enid" Dudley in Vancouver, BC before the couple moved to Quesnel.
Keith was a motorcyclist, carpenter, and talented artist, as well as an avid pilot in his beloved Fleet Canuck DEE after training on Bamboo Bombers and Harvards as a pilot Navigator in 1944 and '45. Keith was actively involved in Quesnel Search & Rescue and Civil Defence, the Quesnel Flying Club, the Cariboo Real Estate Board, Toastmasters, and square dancing with his wife Enid. In Keith's earlier years, he was very active in wrestling and weightlifting, even winning the BC amateur Weightlifting Championship in his weight class for 1940. He provided coaching in those disciplines to many of Quesnel's young men during the 40's and 50's through the Quesnel Decathlon Club.
Keith began his career as a construction, shipyard, and ironworker in North Van and then Quesnel for a total of 18 years before moving into a real estate career for 15 years. Keith spent his final 13 professional years working as Building Inspector for the City of Quesnel. He was known for his adventurous spirit and charming personality until the end of his life and will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife Enid; his children Dana Ballantyne (Wayne) of Langley, Dawn McDonald (Allan) of Quesnel, and Eric Campbell (Pam) of Langley and Quesnel; his 12 grandchildren (the Baldwins, Ballantynes, McDonalds, Kings, and Schuts) and 7 great- grandchildren; his sister Doris Hart (Atchison) née Campbell of Twin Towers North Van, and 2 nephews Keith and Dan Atchison; brother-in-law Leonard Carroll Dudley of North Van, sister-in-law Eunice Gryschuk of Kamloops, as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda Baldwin, niece Kathy Atchison, brother-in-law Steve Gryschuk and 2 half sisters in Oregon.
The family would like to thank all of the Quesnel Home Support staff along with Long Term Care Assessor Debbie Dinsdale, housekeepers Lizette Guillet and Lottie Veitch, Dr Grace Martins, Dr J Fine and the Quesnel geriatric team, along with the nursing staff at Dunrovin Park Lodge for all of their loving care and attention to keeping Keith safe and comfortable in his last years.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. John the Divine Anglican Church on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will be held in the hall following the ceremony.
Given that Keith and Enid spent most of their adult lives away from where they grew up, we'd like to take this opportunity to reach out to any descendants of Leonard, Garnett, Russell or Edgar Dudley, Laura H, Grace Muriel, or Loreta F Dudley. Edward E Campbell, James S Campbell, William B Campbell, Robert I Campbell; Elizabeth Nahu, Catherine Nahu. Please contact [email protected]

It has been many years since I saw Keith or any of your family. I was a good friend of Linda. We went to school together when I lived in Prince George and we met back up again when she moved here with the kids. I often think of the nice times I had when I would come over to your house and wonder how you all are. Please accept our condolences. Charlene Mytting (Archibald)

Keith was my favourite uncle. He always seemed to be up to something and was full of energy. He will be missed by folks who knew him, especially in Quesnel. A life well-lived.
