Harold McMenamin Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 23 to Aug. 24, 2022.
Harold Thomas McMenamin also known as Mac and Hal to so many was born on June 29, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY to Harold Bernard McMenamin and Cecelia Archibald....He was a truly wonderful and kind man loved by everyone.
He had a such great wit and everyone loved his incredible sense of humor, you genuinely just loved being around him. Whether it be his sound and heartfelt advice or his funny stories, which he had many a great one. He loved to tell them and share his memories and would always have you smiling or chuckling. Making you laugh right up to the very end.
He loved his family so very much as well as his many friends and especially adored his two children Marc and Dawn more than anything. His five grandchildren meant the world to him and he was blessed these past years to spend quality time with his granddaughter Brandi which he cherished so. He always said how he called her Dawn all the time because she reminded him of when she was growing up and said she never minded it.
He was a huge sports fanatic with football being his very favorite....LSU, the Saints and his top favorite of all, the Giants. Anyone that knew him well knew that for sure. You could always find him enjoying sitting in his recliner, all the while watching his games or with a book as he was an avid reader as well his whole life. Always amazed at how many books he had read and so quickly which I truly believe gave him his edge in life and business. A huge dog lover as well, sharing with his children that same love and instilling in them that affection by having some wonderful dogs in their lives as they grew up. Great danes, an English Mastiff and even a sweet Pug (for Dawn), and later on in life, Greyhounds and a Shepard. Each one definitely held a place in his heart.
He was a super successful corporate executive with no formal college degree but made up for it with his work ethic, natural talent and thirst for knowledge to better himself. All the while working hard to be able to climb up thru the ranks of the corporate ladder which he did with such diligence and great determination.
Starting at General Foods in the mailroom (where he met his first love Judy, whom he married and they were blessed with two children, Marc and Dawn) then working his way into sales and then marketing in the Post foods division and dog food as well. ( A neat aside...he was the initiator of getting the Jackson 5 on one of those little records on the back of the Post cereal boxes (Alphabets doing ABC) and also secured them on the Post float for Rose Bowl parade in California. Motown was so impressed with his negotiations and what he was able to accomplish they offered him a job with them in LA, he ended up turning it down.
After leaving GF he continued that work ethic and success at Clairol, Revlon, Corning and then successfully running and owning his own Val Pack franchise with his partner in business and in life, his second wife and love, Jane. And if that wasn't enough, was always willing and kindly mentoring many people along the way even when not realizing he was doing it. That was just his way.
Amongst his many wonderful ways that are missed and always will be.
His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure!....He is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure!!
