GREENSBORO - Harriet "Tiny" Bolger Payne died Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, April 17, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3906 West Friendly Avenue, the Rev. Mark Brainerd officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
Tiny was born February 19, 1919, in Charleston, SC, to the late Florence Burns Bolger and Thomas Thaddeus Bolger. She was a pioneer in the field of medical technology in the South, ending her career as Professor of Medical Laboratory Technology at Florence-Darlington Community College in Florence, SC. She held degrees from Lander College, Greenwood, SC; Duke University, Durham, NC; Elon University, Elon, NC; Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, MI, and completed additional graduate study at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC.
Tiny had a great and abiding faith, expressed in her love and compassion for all and in her dedicated service to her churches throughout her life. Even as her health declined, her faith and loving spirit remained strong.
She is survived by her daughters Harriet Sandra Schiffley of Greensboro, NC, and Gail Barnhardt Kouchinsky and husband Peter of Staunton, VA; grandsons Matthew Shane Kouchinsky of Staunton, VA, and Marshall Kyle Kouchinsky of Charlotte, NC; great-granddaughter Mari-Peyton Kouchinsky of Staunton, VA; sister Emily Bolger Mason of Sumter, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
