Harry McAuliffe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 17, 2025.
Harry McAuliffe, 69, of Elmira, NY, passed away on June 3rd, after a short illness.

Harry was born December 9th, 1955 in Princeton, NJ, the son of John and Alice McAuliffe.

After graduating from Wall High School, Harry joined the Navy. There he patrolled the South Pacific in the nuclear submarine the USS Sam Rayburn during the Cold War, and was stationed in the Philippines until he was honorably discharged.

After leaving the Navy, Harry worked on a scallop fishing boat before taking classes and transitioning to work as a computer programmer. He made software to create construction estimates, updated old COBOL code in the late '90s to save the world from Y2K, and worked in the World Trade Center on programs that would eventually help enable high speed trading.

Harry was married to Donna Rae McAuliffe on August 02, 2008 in Las Vegas by an Elvis impersonator. On his third marriage, the Blue Hawaii Special brought him the wife that made him happy for the rest of his life.

Harry loved the many golden retrievers he had over the years from his first, Bumper, to his current dogs, Clark Kent and Scarlett. He loved Star Trek, westerns, and, tragically, betting on the New York Jets.

As a resident of Elmira in his later years, Harry took great pride in a life of service to his fellow community members, including driving local veterans to and from appointments at the VA, and spending time at the local American Legion.

Everyone who met Harry loved him. Harry is survived by his wife, Donna; his sons, Lennon and Dylan; his daughters-in-law Emily and Nancy; his stepson Jesse and his stepdaughter Katanya; his grandson, Camden; his brother, John; his sister, Ginny; his nieces and nephews, Marissa, Ryan, Jennifer, Tracy, Brandon, and Allison; and countless dear friends.

Harry is predeceased by his brother, Mark, and his sister, Susan.

Services will be held July 10th from 1-3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Manasquan, located at 16 Virginia Avenue, followed by a reception from 4-8 p.m. at Oak Tree Lodge in Wall Township, located at 1412 Schoolhouse Road. Please come join us and help us throw one last great party in memory of Harry, a man who knew the secret to a life well-lived was spending good times with good people.

There will be food and drink served (including Crown Royal), music, and games like horseshoes and cornhole. There is also a pool, playground, and mini golf, so please feel free to bring your kids along with you.

Memorial donations in Harry's memory may be directed to Elmira Animal Shelter, or The Alzheimer's Association.
