Hattie Heavner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 24, 2025.
Hattie Lou Heavner passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025. Hattie was born August 3, 1926 to Charles W. Merrell and Irene A. Webb in Murray Utah. Hattie graduated from the University of Utah and was working as a chemistry technician when she met the love of her life, Roy Shaw Heavner. Roy and Hattie were married August 16th 1952 in Tarrytown N.Y. and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake temple on September 23, 1953. Unfortunately, Roy predeceased Hattie by 40 years when he passed on May 15, 1985. She also survived her siblings, Harvey Merrell and Shirley Dixon. Hattie was a resident of Englewood close to 40 years.

Hattie loved her job as a copy editor in the publishing industry until she retired at the age of 83.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Hattie was gracious and caring to everyone she met and was always ready to help anyone in need. Hattie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving the members and community for over 90 years. Her great example of what it means to live as a disciple of Christ will be greatly missed.

Hattie is survived by sons Scott and Eric and daughters Ellen and Karen and two grandchildren, Lauren and Adam.

Though deeply missed, Hattie is finally back with her beloved Roy.

I have many fun memories of Hattie from the New Jersey Emerson Ward of the Church Of jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. She was always kind and gracious and enjoyed the many friends that she had in our congregation. She loved her kids and she definitely loved and missed Roy who predeceased her by too many years. My condolences to the family.

Hattie was a welcoming face when our family moved to New Jersey in the late 1980s. Being a young teen singing in the choir I soon came to know her and saw the ways she served soo many. She was always encouraging and had that signature smile beaming at me whenever she heard me sing or otherwise perform. When my Grandmother Hanna Bates moved in later, as a recent widow herself Hattie made sure she was welcomed and invited and included.
Hattie leaves us all better for having known her and having been influenced by her.
