Hazel McNeely Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 27 to Feb. 28, 2017.
OBITUARY HAZEL IRENE (MADDOX) McNEELY (1922 – 2017) Hazel Maddox McNeely, 94, passed away peacefully at Pasadena Bayshore Medical Center, Pasadena, Texas on Sunday, February 12, 2017. Hazel was born on May 1st, 1922 in Austin, Texas to Robert and Mamie Maddox. She had 5 siblings, Geraldine East, Jeanette Klein, Helen Arnold (living), James Maddox, and John Maddox. Hazel married the love of her life, Royce Woodrow (Buck) McNeely in 1940. She worked at North American Aviation in Dallas as a "Rosie the Riveter", Lammes Candy Company in Austin, and as a nurse's aide in the hospital in Bastrop, Texas where they moved in 1960. Caring for others was her passion. She was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church of Bastrop, Texas. They owned and operated the Jet Drive-in in Del Valle, Texas at the entrance to Bergstrom Airforce Base from 1969 to 1985. During those years they developed long lasting friendships with the Austin, Dell Valle, and Bastrop communities. Hazel is survived by her son Stephen McNeely and his wife Brenda, granddaughter Stephanie McNeely and grandson Ryan McNeely; her daughter Peggy Jones, grandson Paul Lebus, grandson Barry Lebus and his wife Felecia, great grandsons Darryl Lebus, and Andrew Lebus. GiGi loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. Each one of them was very special to her and she enjoyed hearing the latest stories about their lives and reminiscing about funny memories about her grandchildren's lives growing up. Hazel and Buck moved to Pasadena, Texas in 1999 to be near their children. Buck passed away in 2000. For the last 8 years of Hazels life, she resided at Paramount Senior Care Center in Pasadena, Texas. She enjoyed her life there and made many friends. She considered it her home and was very content. Hazel believed God directed her and felt a strong Christian bond with her small community group. She was the true definition of a lady. She was a gentle, kind, warm, and loving person. She was as beautiful on the outside and she was on the inside. A short memorial/inurnment service will take place at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, Section K (The Old Rugged Cross) 14619 IH-35 North, Austin, Texas 78660, (512.251.4118), at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4th, 2017. Hazels nephew, Rev. Michael James East, will officiate. After the service, everyone is invited to the home of Hazels niece, Rosanna Garry, for refreshments and to celebrate Hazels life.
