Helen DeMarco Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 22, 2024.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Helen Ann DeMarco on June 29, 2024. Helen was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born on October 9, 1938 in Newark, New Jersey. Helen was the daughter of Elizabeth Nigro SanMartin and Antonio SanMartin, predeceased. Surviving are her brother Anthony (Marge) and sister Dolores. A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Helen graduated from West Side High School in Newark. She worked, first as a secretary and also later as an office manager. But Helen was most proud of being an at home Mother, and made that her priority.

Helen married the love of her life, Michael DeMarco, and together they built a beautiful family.

Her family included her devoted husband, and her loving children Tony and his wife Doreen, Linda and her husband Tom, Tommy and her beloved daughter-in-law Vera who predeceased her.

Helen's legacy includes her five grandchildren, and a new great-grandson. She is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Helen had a life rich with interests and hobbies. She was a gifted craftswoman, often creating beautiful pieces that included making a rag doll for each of her children and her 7 nieces and nephews. Her cooking and baking were well remembered, with recipes passed down and cherished through generations. Many a Christmas Eve were hosted at Helen's house and unforgettable holidays she hosted will forever be cherished.

But above all, Helen's favorite moments were those spent surrounded by her family. She cherished the memories created during family gatherings, holidays, and countless backyard picnics around the pool. Helen's warmth and kindness will be profoundly missed by all. Her ability to see the beauty in the world and in others, to offer a kind word or a helping hand, will not be forgotten. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart that was truly sweet and kind. In the later years, Helen kept in touch with family and friends via computer which gave her peace. Helen's journey through life was marked by grace and resilience.

Helen's family will be holding a private ceremony to honor her memory. They would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have shared in Helen's life and have provided support during this time. To honor Helen's memory, any donations may be made to a favorite charity or St. Jude's Children Hospital.

Never will forget the good times we had double dating or going downtown Perth Amboy when the kids were small. You were always smiling which helped get over many sad times in my life. Will miss you Helen. Diane...

Dear Helen. You are now in Heaven with no more pain & despair. I will forever remember our good times together when your kids were little & we would go downtown Perth Amboy. Or when I would go out on a double date (with your Mom & Dad). The good old days for sure. Helen, you are so missed. I remember when you, Mike & Aunt Lucille came to my home for.dinner, & I made it a birthday dinner for you. We all had such a wonderful time. So happy for our memories. Miss you but will alway have you in my heart. You were such a special Lady. Deepest Sympathy to Linda,Tony, Tommy & all their families. God Bless Always...

After growing up in Carteret, I have such wonderful memories of going to the DeMarco house! Mrs. DeMarco was always so welcoming and kind. She was so warm and caring to all of her children´s friends. Linda, Tom, Tony, and all of your families, I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

I´ll always remember all the great memories going to her house, especially in the summer swimming in the pool, having cookouts, and visiting the shore and boardwalk. Going down the shore will be different knowing she´s not around but will always a reminder of her. I love you forever Grandma
