Herbert Hestand Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 25, 2017.
Herbert Stanley Hestand was born April 26, 1934 to Cecil Calbert Hestand and Freda Marie Jarvis Hestand at Bernice, Oklahoma. His only sibling, Larry Joe, was born in 1938.
Herb began first grade at Beck School in 1940. In 1942 the family moved to Vinita, Oklahoma, where he attended Ironside School, graduating from the 8th grade in 1948.
In 1948 the family moved to Grandview, Missouri. There he attended Grandview High School and graduated in 1952.
Aug. 29, 1952 Herb enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served as a personnel clerk in base hospitals at Sewart AFB near Nashville, Nouasseur Air Depot in French Morrocco, North Africa, and Richards-Gebaur AFB, Kansas City, and was honorably discharged in 1959.
Herb was married to Billie Ann Bollmeyer on August 11, 1956 at Higginsville, Missouri. Herb and Billie have 3 children; James Herbert, Thomas Edward and Linda Ann.
He worked for a short time at the Bendix plant in south Kansas City, then went to work for the Hickman Mills Fire Department. In 1960 he began working a route sales and delivery job for Oldham's Sausage Company. He bought the route in 1962 and worked for Oldham's through several ownership changes, eventually retiring from ConAgra Foods as the Business Manager for the Oldham's Sausage Division in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Billie, his brother Larry (Janell) Hestand, his three children, James (Melinda) Hestand, Thomas (Marlene) Hestand, and Linda (Clay) Heishman, six grandchildren, Amy, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Sarah, Stacey and Jennie, and three great grandsons, Cadeyn, Grayson and Asher.
Herb loved life and had many hobbies and interests. He loved to fish and spent countless weekends fishing and camping at the lake with his family. He was a leader and scoutmaster in Boy Scout Troop 219. In his retirement years he enjoyed traveling, spending time at the lake house, cooking and gardening, flying and building model airplanes and spending time with his buddies in the Flying club. He was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. He knows Christ as his Lord and Savior and has faithfully attended the Belton Assembly of God for the last 57 years, living his faith as a quiet but confident and steadfast example to all.

Herb was like a brother to me. From our teen years together working on our old cars that would barely run to our relationship throughout the rest of our lives, Herb was a very important part of my life.

His passing has left a hole in my heart that will never be filled.

Dear family, I was saddened to learn of Herb's passing. Being Kathryn Hestand's sister, I met Herb when I visited Grandview way back in the late 40's. I will remember him as being a gentleman, kind, and so pleasant. My sincere sympathy to all. Joann Meredith Cross, Holts Summit, MO

Herb has been a special part of my life for as long as I can remember. Not only were we "double" cousins, but also always good friends. We grew up together, played together as children, ran around together as teenagers, spent time together along with our respective families all through our adult lives and on into our later years. He and Billie have not only been family but also good friends. I will miss him greatly.

Awesome man. Good friend and neighbor. Much fun playing cards and fellowship time.
