On Friday, December 13, 2013, Herb Schmidt beloved husband of Shirley Schmidt, Glenavon, SK., passed away at the age of 84 years. The Funeral Service will be held in the Glenavon Centennial Hall, Glenavon, SK., on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Lynette Callfas officiating. Cremation with a family interment in Glenavon Cemetery. Herb was predeceased by his parents Henry and Lena Schmidt, his father and mother-in-law, Mervin and Ethel Dobson, three brothers, Don, Byron and Roger Schmidt, two brothers- in-law, Asil Dobson and Claude Dobson, four sisters-in-law, Dot Dobson, Blanche Dobson, Maureen Schmidt and Maxine Dobson. Herb is survived by his loving wife and care giver Shirley and their family, one daughter Claudia (Lyle) Hazell and two sons, Kevin (Tannis) Schmidt and Mervin (Nadine) Schmidt, eight grandchildren, Sherrie Hazell (Darryl Parker), Amanda (Rodney) Reid, Leejay, Joland, Keaton, Jordan (Kerri), Jared (Ashley) and Tyson (Taylor) three great-grandchildren, Cody, Megan and Alex, one sister, Agnes (Dave) Debert four sisters-in-law, Barbara Schmidt, Josie Schmidt, Evelyn (Wilbur) Richter and Windy Dobson; brother-in-law Johnston (Hazel Dobson) and also his nieces and nephews. Herb was dedicated to his family and enjoyed watching the many sports activities in which they participated. He was equally dedicated to the farming community he served as an agent with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and the community of Glenavon. Herb served on the village council, volunteer fire department, community rink board, curling club and numerous other organizations. He was a faithful member of the Glenavon and District Lions Club and supported the many events and activities they sponsored. Herb will be dearly missed by family and friends.
