HERMAN E.
Of Pittsburgh, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Beloved husband of Etta; father of Stewart (Sandi) and Andrew (Laura); and grandfather of Zeqe, Vivi, Aidan and Gavin; son of Abe and Lea Golomb; brother of Barbara Weiss (Elek); and uncle of Ronnie (husband Bill, daughter Mindy) Nichamin of North Carolina and Bert (Suzie) Weiss of New Hampshire; cousin of Harvey (Lynne) Golomb of Chicago, Sally, Crystal and Milton Gurin, of Philadelphia; and the many loving members of the Leyton and Golomb families; loyal and devoted friend of far too many to name here. Herman graduated with distinction from Penn State, where he was Editor-in-Chief of La Vie, the university yearbook. He received his Master's Degree from The University of Pittsburgh, but remained a loyal Penn State football fan. An avid and highly accomplished athlete, he did them all - golf, tennis, skiing, cycling and fishing - and taught both his boys and grandchildren along the way. His lifelong passion was wine and food - of which he was both an aficionado and teacher - and was an early member of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. Friends are invited to join the family on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at The Pittsburgh Golf Club, 5280 Northumberland St., to raise a glass in Herm's honor. Services and Interment PRIVATE. Arrangements entrusted to RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC.

I will miss Herman's care and warmth. No time was ever lost. Reunions always left me with a smile, a sense of real caring, and of course a sharing of a good dog story.

All the best from my entire family as you go through this difficult time. Herman was always willing to have a conversation with the kids (me) at the Schechter Family Club dinners and I am thankful I had a chance to know him. In recent years, we shared some eMails when my parents were nearing the end of their lives and I appreciated hearing from him.
