Hilda Schaeffer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 10, 2018.
Hilda Lucille Schaeffer (nee Sours) of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her home on March 9, 2018. She was 93. Born February 1, 1925, in Luray, Virginia, the daughter of Lloyd and Bessie Sours, Hilda graduated from Fairfax High School in 1942. She married the love of her life, Raymond Hall Schaeffer, on December 2, 1946, and they had two daughters. She enjoyed a long career with the Department of the Army, primarily at the Pentagon, retiring in the fall of 1979. In retirement, she volunteered at Fair Oaks hospital and was an active member of the American Legion Post 177 Auxiliary, serving as President for several years. Her favorite role was Grandmother to her only grandson, Jason Reilly, whom she doted on and adored. Hilda was beloved by her daughters, grandson, brother and sisters, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her sisters Marguerite Buckley, Velma Jones and Francis Schindel and her brother Richard Sours. She is survived by her brother, Lloyd Sours and her sisters Ruth Taylor and Thelma Jones, all of Northern Virginia. She will be greatly missed by her daughters Sandrea Reilly of Silver Spring, Maryland and Sharon O'Quinn of Camden, South Carolina, and her grandson Jason Reilly of Silver Spring, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Hilda's name to The American Legion or the American Heart Association.

Mom, it's only been a few days and I miss you so much. You could so easily drive me crazy but I loved you anyway. Its going to take a while for anything to feel close to normal.
