Howard F. Cone was born on May 10, 1923 in Kingsbury, Texas to Howard Morgan and Margaret Nynia (Bush) Cone and passed from this life on November 22, 2013 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 90.
Howard graduated Valedictorian from Bigfoot, Texas High School and he later attended Port Arthur Technical School. He worked as an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration for 39 years and taught an additional 10 years at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City. He retired as the FAA Chief in Orlando, Florida. Howard proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1944-1946 serving in the Pacific Theater during WW II until his honorable discharge. He later married Wanda Hagopian on November 28, 1947 and they were blessed with 62 years together. They moved to the Texoma Area in 1995 from Oklahoma City, OK and they were members of the Kingston Baptist Church. Howard enjoyed aviation, history, music, current events, technology, and college football. Howard was a big supporter of the local food banks and he deeply loved his family. Howard is preceded in death by his parents Howard M. and Margaret Cone; wife Wanda Hagopian Cone and sister Johnnie Mensing.
Howard is survived by his children Howard F. Cone Jr. and wife Jacqueline of Kingsport, TN, Michelle Y. Cone of Jacksonville, FL and Kenneth L. Cone and wife Robin of Durant, OK; grandchildren Joshua H. Cone and wife Mary K. of Columbia, SC, Kenneth H. Cone and wife Brittney of Sherman, TX, Jonathan A. Cone of Ft. Worth, TX and Timothy D. Cone of Kanas City, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Steve Bebee officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery with Joshua Cone, Kenneth Cone, Jonathan Cone, Timothy Cone, James Hutter, Howard Cone Jr. and Kenneth L. Cone serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6-8 PM. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownsfuneralservice.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service, Durant.
