Heaven has gained a special angel. Howard Maurice Postlethwait passed away at 87 on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Ruby Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving wife of 68 years and loving children.
He was born on January 12, 1933 in Littleton, WV, a son of the late Evelyn Jane Postlethwait and Gale Ralph Postlethwait.
He worked as an insurance representative for Equitable, American General, Mutual of Omaha and retired from People’s.
He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and any Westerns, puzzles, camping, hunting, and fishing. He was a people person and loved to laugh and joke. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family that he loved very much.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gordon and Lucy Harbert who raised him; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dick and Louise Allawatt, who thought of him as a son.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Allawatt Postlethwait, who was the love of his life and soulmate. They celebrated their 68th anniversary on March 15, 2020. Also surviving are his children who dearly loved him, Richard Postlethwait (Karen) of Sevierville, TN, Sherri Urse, Joe Urse, Jr. of Fairmont, WV, Kimberly Cochran (Brad) of Clarksburg, WV, and Howard K. Postlethwait (Shelly) of Grafton, WV; his brother, Wayman Postlethwait of West Union, WV and sister-in-law, Beverly “Bubbles” Vespoint of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his loving grandchildren who he adored, Joseph E. Urse III (Tabitha), Jason Urse (Angela), Jared Urse (Sarah), Justin Urse (Amber), and Alicia Urse Hamrick (Justin), Crystal Postlethwait, Tiara Cochran, and Tiffany Cochran; great grandchildren, Olivia Bolling and companion Tyler Loundon, Adalea Urse, Josey and Zoey Urse, Lillyanna and Jacob Urse, Jett and Jace Urse, and Eli and Liam Hamrick, and Kylah Cochran and Gracie Devericks; step grandchildren, Lori Chambers (Eric) and Lindsay Hardway; step great grandchildren, Savannah and McKenzie Chambers, and Jonathan, Frank, and Rosellen Fergason.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Peter Ang and staff, Fairmont Regional Medical Center doctor and staff, the doctors and staff at Ruby Memorial Hospital 8 NE, Dr. Almubarak and staff at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, Marion County Rescue Squad, WV Caring, and Domico Funeral Home for their love, compassion, and support.
The family will hold a private service at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont for immediate family due to COVID-19 with Jason Urse officiating. A graveside service will be held at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Our dear husband, father, and grandfather deserves a special tribute. Please be with us in prayer. Well Grandpa its hard to believe you are not here now. I remember all the way back to when I was a kid which was a long time ago now. I remember all the family get togethers and there were a lot of them. The monthly birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgivings, Easters... all of them. I remember the many politic conversations. I know you adored all of us the way we adored you. You were always so sweet to Tabitha and she loved you as well as did Josey and Zoey whom I know you loved too. We all will meet again. Love you Grandpa

Dear Dad, I miss you so much. I cant believe youre not here sitting in your recliner...but, maybe you are. There isnt a second that goes by that you are not on my mind. You were the best dad ever, always there giving your love, guidance and support. You loved us all very much just as we loved you. I will miss hearing you say whereve you been everyday when I came home and stopping to get your normal as you would say Won Tons and mocha frappe. Mom is staying strong, just as you asked of her, but she says she lost a part of her body and she loves you very much. You are now in the arms of the Angels watching over us. I love and miss you very much, Dad. Your Loving Daughter, Sherri
