Howynn V. Heidelberg, 65, of Erie, Pa. passed away early Saturday morning, December 5, 2020, in her sister's home surrounded by family to be with the Lord. For the last three months, Howynn had been suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Howynn was born February 20, 1955, in Erie, Pa. to the late Howard and Mary Jane Roy. She was the oldest of three children.

Howynn graduated from Mercyhurst Prep in 1973. She received her associate's degree in Early Child Education from Villa Maria College in 1987 and later received her bachelor's from Edinboro University in 2008. Howynn began her career working as a teaching in 1980 at Har-lin Daycare Center. In 1990, she took over as director when her mother retired and was active at that position until the center closed in 2007. She then took over as director of the Martin Luther King Daycare, where she was employed from 2008-2014.

While Howynn was working at Har-lin Daycare Center, she was involved with the PTA/PTO and Title I Chapter Program at her children's school (McKinley Elementary). She was dedicated and cared for children.

On March 30, 1985, Howynn married Clarence Heidelburg, her husband for over 35 years. Clarence said, "God blessed me with a good woman. She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend".

Howynn was a life-long member of St. James A.M.E. Church. She was part of the St. James Singers, trustee and was part of the book club. Howynn loved being around family, especially during the holidays. She enjoyed playing cards with friends, listening to music, reading books and she loved long rides around the beach.

Howynn was preceded in death by her loving parents, Howard and Mary Jane Roy and her granddaughter, Mia.

She is survived by her loving husband Clarence, children, Patricia, Samantha and Ethan, grandchildren, Julian, Treyvon, Ja'Zelle, Charlotte and Aiden, her brother Shawn Roy, Sr. and sister, Wendy (Steve) Boyd. She is further survived by her niece/godchild Allison (Stephen) Bell, nephews, Jonathan and Shawn Roy, Jr. and Dorian Boyd, and great-niece Savannah Bell. Three godchildren and many other family and friends also survive her.

Our sympathy to Howynn's family. Howynn's legacy is her many years teaching and caring for our very young children. May she be reunited with her parents in heaven.

Howynn, you were one of my very first beloved teachers! I remember you letting me bring in my Michael Jackson Thriller album (to Har-Lin) when I was old enough to come in after school, and sitting in the office singing Lady in my Life!
Condolences to Wendy, and your entire family.
Love,
Rinda

Her person and friendship says all that needs to be said of my friend and sister of 58 years. My soul has a hole that will be filled when I call 'next' at the Heavenly card table. Thank You Howynn for occupying that space in my life and heart. I'm sure Laurice and family welcomed you with open arms
