Ikuko "Iku/Iko" Dembeck

Ikuko Dembeck, also known as Iku/Iko, peacefully passed away on January 24, 2024, at the age of 83 in Downers Grove, Illinois. Born on April 21, 1940, in Okinawa, Japan, she was deeply connected to her Okinawan roots and cherished her heritage throughout her life.

Ikuko was a remarkable individual known for her loving and selfless nature. She possessed a heart full of compassion and was never hesitant to speak her mind. Hardworking and devoted, she dedicated her life to her church and embraced the teachings of her faith. In her free time, she found joy in gardening and cherished the moments spent with friends at the Y during her swim classes.

Passionate about her Okinawan culture, Ikuko encouraged her grandchildren to engage in activities such as playing the Taiko and participating in traditional Okinawan dances. Recently, she had the opportunity to return to Japan, allowing her to reconnect with her homeland before her passing. Ikuko's love and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

Ikuko Dembeck is survived by her son, Thomas Dembeck, her daughter, Donna (Rudy) Raines, her granddaughter, Rochelle (Dembeck) Turner, her grandson, Michael Dembeck, and her great-granddaughters, Maddison Turner, Hayley Turner, and Aubree Turner. She will also be greatly missed by her best friend who was like a sister to her, Helene Samek. Their lives have been enriched by her presence, and her memory will forever be cherished in their hearts.

In accordance with Ikuko's wishes, the family will honor her by not holding any services. Instead, they will come together to celebrate her life and the lasting impact she had on each of them.
