CANNING _ Irene passed away on the first day of winter, December 21, 2004 at Powell River General Hospital. Irene succumbed to heart failure after a long, hard fight with heart disease. Irene Canning was born into the Hrycyna family in Gimli, Manitoba on May 14, 1923. She moved to Vancouver in 1939 with her sister Dorothy before the war and married James Chester Canning in 1944. Irene was a talented dressmaker, home decorator and gardener. She spent the last 12 years in New Westminster and then upon her daughter's request moved to Powell River two years ago to reside in a little house by the ocean. Irene Canning is survived by 3 daughters Patricia, JoAnn and Susan and one grandson, Christopher Canning. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Van Dusen Garden, Vancouver "Adopt a Tree Program" in her name. To honour her fighting spirit remember her in the beauty of the flowers and trees of the earth.
