Irene Harryman Obituary

Irene Harryman, 86, of Charleston, S.C., peacefully passed away Nov. 12, 2008.

She was born on Jan. 16, 1922, in Glossop, England, to Herny and Edith Dewsnap. She served in the British Women’s Land Army during World War II.

In 1946, she came to American as a GI war bride and proudly attained her American citizenship. She enjoyed life as a homemake and substitute teacher in Baltimore, Md. Children were dear to her heart. She dedicated service to them as a brownie leader and through church programs.

Irene and her husband, Carroll, moved to Charleston in 1979 for the love of the holy city and to enjoy being helpful grandparents. Irene had a gift for conversation and witty expressions. She would want to remembered as a devout Christian that prayed earnestly for others.

Irene was a devoted wife for 59 years to the late Carroll John Harryman. She was a loving mother to three daughters, Carole Stinchcomb, who preceded her in death, Jacqueline Fesenmeyer of Cleburne, Texas, and June Fox of Charleston, S.C.

Irene was blessed with four grandchildren, Kenneth Collins and Ross Fesenmeyer, both of Cleburne, Texas, Heidi Treen of Kings Bay, Ga., and Bethany Henderson of Charleston, S.C. She has three great-grandchildren and one expectant great-grandchild. She has nieces and nephews in England and America.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Joe and Harry Dewsnap.
